Nassau Hall

I’d like to see the inside. There must be interesting things in there, architectural and otherwise. I never see anything about tours, though. Can I just walk in? There are administrative offices there I guess?

What tune is this?

Also, what’s the best way to look up jazz tunes? It’s easy to find Irish tunes on The Session using ABC notation. Is there anything similar for jazz?

Comparing jazz in different countries

Obviously, jazz was born in the USA. Also obviously, people in other countries have listened to it and played it for a long time. I know that there have been legendary jazz musicians who were not American. But I’m wondering about the level of the music today.

I’m familiar with how it is in New York. If you go to a Smalls jam session, most musicians will be quite competent, some will be not so hot, some will knock your socks off. What would a jam session be like in, say, Paris? Where in the world could you go and expect to find good players?

Also, I’m aware that American jazz musicians make a lot of their money playing overseas. Do you think that they get extra respect just because they are American?
