Possum, 100F, 3 hours

No joeys were harmed in the making. Mods, sorry if this is off topic.

Went on an early AM bike ride and encountered an Opossum which had been hit and killed by a vehicle. Luckily, Mama's babies managed to survive. My local rehab center opened at 10AM and since I had a few hours of waiting I fired up my cooker. Filled a pot snd set it to 100F. Ambient temp in the container was a cozy 95 F.

Inkbird saves the day.

Rehabber said they were probably 2-2.5 months old based on their weight, length, and eyes being opened.

Humble 5.1 Setup

Fronts: Paradigm 'Mini' Monitor V6 - Free, courtesy of a friend

Center: Boston VR910 $15

Surrounds: Paradigm Atom Monitor V6 ~$15 from goodwill

Dayton Audio Sub-1200 $45

Denon AVR S570BT ~$425

Bonus Bedroom Setup: Fosi Audio 2.1 BT30D ($90)

Mission MS-50 bookshelf speakers. ($40)

Kinda wish i had forgone the denon and waited for a good deal on a 7.1 receiver to pop up on marketplace. Regardless, the 570 does a good job with the upmixing.

The paradigms are neat. They have the notorious condom woofers. I think they were the last iteration of their entry level lineup to be manufactured in Canada before they started outsourcing some of the production to China. Great midrange.

The Dayton sub is pretty crazy. Coming from someone with a lot of background in Car AV, it definitely moves air lol. At surprisingly low frequencies too.

I keep it turned down to avoid disturbing my neighbors.

Yoshi's rendition of "Heigh-Ho" from Snow White

My dad's male "Yoshi" has been obsessed with this song ever since he heard it.

Also, that dishrag draped over me is his favorite. For some unknown reason, he loves the waffle weave fabric. He stands on it, demands to be dragged on it for his "rides", plays peekaboo with it, and now serenades it when it's covered over our heads.

Really living up to the "one shared brain cell"

Fixed the ghost input/no input due to screen delamination for $90 - Screen/Digitizer Replacement

Parts #: TFT C065VAT01

Context: I started experiencing the ghost/phantom input last year and it progressively worsened.

Subaru extended their warranty for these units due to the defect involving screen delamination which is susceptible to failure in high heat/summer.

Unfortunately for me, they would not honor my claim due to my dumbass cracking the screen.

(Don't do this) I managed to make my bad screen work by shimming a piece of plastic to apply enough pressure.

Eventually that failed, and in my frustration I pushed too hard and made a nice hairline crack across the screen. This resulted in only one corner of the touchscreen working. Only had access to certain functions in car play, no access to settings, EQ, etc.

Anyways, I got curious and figured why the hell not. I took the head unit out and disassembled it. Turns out, they're pretty robust and easy to work on.

Removed the screen and digitizer. Found a parts # on it, plugged it in on eBay and found a 1:1 screen replacement.

3 weeks, 3 ribbon cables, and a dozen torx screws later, I was able to swap the old one out to my surprise the new one works fantastic!

All in, it took about 1 hour to complete.

TLDR instructions:

Remove front vents, and 4 Phillips head screws mounting the head unit.

Disconnect cables

Pull unit.

Remove 9 T9 screws holding the black trim/bezel/screen in place.

Gently pry from the metal frame of the unit. This will separate the front of the head unit from the back. It connects via quick connect/snap connector.

Remove 12x T9 screws on the display board

The board and heat shield should be loose now.

You can now remove the screen by detaching the 3 ribbon cables.

Replace and reassemble.

I did take some video footage in case people were interested in seeing it done.
