Offense and Coaching

Can anyone explain what our current offensive philosophy or identity?

I genuinely don't understand what we are trying to accomplish offensively. Right now, I have no idea what Michigan's offensive identity even is. This offense is broken.

The play-calling has been awful. We've failed to score even 20 points in four of our five games. We constantly run sideways instead of getting downhill. Against Minnesota, we ran 28 times for 79 yards (2.8 per carry) without a single run of 10 yards. We keep going back to concepts that aren't working. We get into short-yardage situations and somehow make getting ONE YARD look like the hardest thing in football. We have Bryce Underwood's athleticism at quarterback and still manage to make this offense feel predictable.

The sideways running has to stop.Trying the same thing over and over when the offensive line clearly isn't creating those lanes has to stop.

The quarterback play has not been good enough. Underwood was 10-of-21 for 101 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions against Minnesota, and early this season he was somehow our leading rusher. Maybe the coaching is hurting him. Maybe the system isn't putting him in a position to succeed. Maybe his confidence is shot. Maybe he simply isn't ready right now. It's probably a combination of things.
But something has to change.

This team is poorly coached right now. At 3-2 and 0-2 in the Big Ten, at some point this isn't bad luck anymore. It's coaching.
