I‘m helping my wife repair her organ, it’s about 40 years old so needs a wee bit of work. One thing we’ve discovered is that the foam on the woofers is disintegrating, and they stick and make a nasty metallic twang. So we’re looking at replacing the speakers and need a bit of advice. The woofers are 10”, 4ohm and the parts manual says 60w.

1. Can we replace them with higher wattage speakers? It’s very unlikely that the organ will ever run at full volume, that would bring the house down.
2. If we do use higher wattage speakers will that unbalance the tweeters and mid range? Organ has 6 speakers, 2 each of tweeters, mid-range and woofers.
3. What would happen if we use 8ohm speakers instead? Most speakers around seem to be 8ohm now.
4. Can anyone recommend decent, cheap 10” woofers?
