The more you do, the quicker you get into autophagy ?

I read somewhere that the more dry fasting you do that the quicker you get into autophagy each time?

Is this true?

Personally I’m thinking there has to be more factors into how fast you get into autophagy each than just how many times you have fasted .. like nutrition before hand, how much you weigh, etc.

What are your thoughts ?

I have done 5 short dry fasts so far between 22hrs and 52hrs.

24 hour dry fast with a long walk

Has anyone been doing the 24 -36hr dry fast with a long walk? I’ve heard it’s meant to be a good combination.

I’m not interested in the weight loss though, more on the health benefits and autophagy.

I think that it’s meant to accelerate the onset of autophagy…?

What has your experience been ?

My update:

So I am 21 hrs into my fast from food and 18hrs into my dry fast. I did a 4 mile (6k) walk this morning with my dog in the forest and along the river. It was beautiful. The temperature was perfect in the shade and I felt nature feeding me with its energy. I felt really present and connected to nature in the dry fasted state.

I have done 12,000 steps so far today which is a lot for me on a dry fast. I usually try to preserve my energy. So this is an experiment to see how it feels with a bit more movement added in.

I’m not planning to do over 36hrs.. will see how the evening goes.

Verrucas have disappeared!

I just noticed that the verrucas I have had on my feet for years are not there anymore!

There are a few things i have been doing that has probably contributed to my immune system finally getting rid of them.

I have been low carb for about 4 months, not keto, still been eating veg and berries.

I did this as I had some bladder pain I was trying to resolve. I was also taking oregano oil for a few months too, as well as some other supplements.

I have also done four dry fasts this year, 2 x 22 hrs, 1 x 52hrs in Jan/feb and 1 x 30hrs under a week ago.

I’m wondering if the last dry fast did the trick? I’m not sure as I haven’t checked my feet for a while.. but I think the verrucas were still there about a month or so ago.

Anyway! I was really excited to see this positive sign ✌🏻

Elevated body temp

Interestingly I can see from my oura ring data that today my body temp is much higher and body is ‘struggling’ …

My body is definitely doing a lot of work after I broke a 30hr dry fast yesterday.

Immune system maybe dealing with something.. with the elevated temperature. I don’t feel like I have a fever, but I don’t feel well.

Feeling very tired after fast’s?

Does anyone else get this after a fast?

It’s happened with all of my dry fasts so far, that I feel almost worse afterwards for a week or so..

weird pressure in hear and dull headache, achy, tired, depressed..

I just finished a 30hr dry fast yesterday.

I know that the refeed is where the healing happens and weeks after. But it is quite disheartening after putting the effort and willpower in to the fast and then feel rubbish after.

Does this happen to anyone else?

I feel like I’m doing it all correctly, I am low carb to begin with, I refeed slowly starting with water obviously, then bone broth, then eggs fish some steamed veg etc. I also plan my fasts around my cycle.

Or is it that fasting isn’t for me ? And it depletes me too much ? Am I still detoxing and just feeling the effects of that?

I don’t know what the answer is. I know I have to be patient and see how I feel after the next week or so.

I hear people having loads of energy and clarity when dry fasting or feeling amazing afterwards, and so far that hasn’t been the case for me.

How do you break/refeed on a dry fast ?

I just broke a 30hr dry fast with water - at 3am in the morning then went back to sleep and in the morning had some water and electrolytes until lunchtime.

Then I had some bone broth and then hour later scrambled eggs with ghee and some avocado. For my evening meal I had some tuna, sauerkraut and steamed carrots and courgettes.

I will add some heavier foods in tomorrow.

How do you break/refeed after your dry fast?

I did 30hrs dry and carrying on with just water.

Update’s :

* 18 hours into my dry fast I notice that I start to feel a bit tired, some dull aches and pains. It’s the feeling I get when my body is detoxing. Maybe going into ketosis at this point.. up till this point I felt fine, just a little hungry.

* 20 hrs dry fast and 24 hrs without food - starting to feel hungry now and cravings for food and water are beginning. Also feeling some pain in my neck - probably the cortisol levels rising from the fast.

* I am now 24 hrs into my dry fast and 28 hrs into fasting from my last meal. I am going to try and sleep.. and break the fast in the morning.

(Feeling a little bit of anxiety as I can feel my heart rate is a little higher, which always makes me anxious and can be a vicious cycle to get into.)

Update:

* I ended my dry fast at just under 30hrs.

I sipped on some water and might keep the fast from food going until the morning. As it is 3am I broke my dry fast with some water. It got too intense for me and I started to have palpitations and feeling nausea. I didn’t want to push through this time round. I’m happy with my attempt.

Update a.m:

* It’s 10am - my dry fast is over but I am continuing on just water as I feel okay.. and like I can manage some more fasting. I am at 42 hrs of fast so far. Feeling weak and tired but okay.. intense feeling got better. So I’ll just carry on listening to my body and its capacity. My skin is glowing!

Ended my dry fast at just under 30hrs.

Sitting here at 3am drinking sips of water. It got a bit intense for me when I woke up in the middle of the night with heart palpitations and feeling nausea. I decided not to push through and end the fast. I’ve pushed through before and can get to the point I feel faint, so i decided not to do that.

So i managed 30 hours dry and 34hrs without food. I’m happy with that as I was only originally aiming for a 24hr one to reset a little.

Not sure if I’ll ever manage a longer one than my longest which was 54hrs. I feel like my constitution struggles with it when others find it much easier. I’m not new to fasting either.. Maybe it’s blood sugar for me, even though ive been doing low carb most of the time for the last 4 months.

Anyway I’m happy with my attempt and will keep trying to increase gently every month or so..

Wanted barefoot shoes for ages! Zara made it more affordable.

I’m really happy with them! I haven’t tried Vivo, my mum has a few pairs which look great.

Zara’s selection is affordable and I liked the look of them.

As I thought I’m always in between sizes, so I settled on the 5’s. I’m usually a 5, I have a little more than a thumb width space at the front. I tried 4’s and they were too narrow for me and didn’t feel spacious enough to be barefoot.

Anyway I’m super happy with them and my feet are very comfortable:)

Doing my 4th dry fast

I’m doing a 24 hr dry fast starting from yesterday evening at 10pm, when I had my last liquids. 6pm was when I had my last food.

I will try to get to 36hrs dry if I can get to the following morning - (tomorrow.)

I have done 2 x 22 hr dry fasts before and my longest dry fast was about 50hrs. I had trouble getting past that as I felt very shaky and had heart palpitations. I would love to do a 3 day one at some point or longer, but I’m going to slowly increase my dry fasting window and do it that way.

I’m looking forward to a little reset, and at the moment I can’t commit to a longer one due to life and too much going on. I am already lean so doing this for health benefits mostly!

I wasn’t drinking much caffeine but I’ve alway had a sensitive system that reacts to it.

4 months ago I stopped drinking coffee, tea, matcha or eating any chocolate. I basically cut out as many stimulants as I could. Even a lot of sugar apart from fruit. I did this for health reasons as I was dealing with a chronic bladder pain, so that was my main motivation for doing this.

I have gone without caffeine many times before, for periods of time, but probably still been drinking some kind of stimulant like green tea, matcha, cacao etc..

This time round I wanted to really pay attention to the affect it had on my dopamine, as I have struggled with motivation and focus without stimulants in the past , so I wanted to see if it got better without them after withdrawal and if it improved after longer periods of time.

I am now 4 months without and I have noticed in the last few weeks that my focus has improved, I am able to finish a task more easily now. The anxiety I was experiencing is also better, not 100% gone but much more manageable.

Other things I noticed: I fall asleep more easily, my skin is more hydrated, and my energy is starting to even out. It’s nice to know what is my own energy - rather than coming from stimulants.

I will keep going as I am curious to see if it keeps getting better!

Edit: I would like to add that I have also been consistent with my meditation practise when I wake up and before I go to sleep.

I have also been microdosing psilocybin for a few weeks (which I have done before on and off over the last few years.)

I go for a walk every day with my dog - to get my daylight in.

I have been eating only wholefoods for this time period too and no sugars apart from berries.
