We prepped this for about a year and tried to combine virtual, practical, and digital effects to bring the world of Rapture to life. We shot over 3 days at SMASH Virtual in Chicago, and I'm so excited to share a teaser trailer of the film!

Tracking workflows that use recorded lens Cooke/Zeiss metadata

Hello all! I'm trying to learn more about matchmoving and tracking, and I'm wondering what the workflow options are for tracking/matchmoving when you have lens distortion metadata (Cooke i/3 or Zeiss XD) that is recorded with the OCN.

Presumably, one could generate a sequence of lens distortion values or an STMap sequence that goes along with the footage. Is the idea to just pre-undistort the footage before tracking, or do any of the tracking softwares allow this additional data to be utilized directly to aid solving?

My specific use case is tracking shots filmed on an LED volume, which is tricky since the perspective between the foreground and background does not always line up pixel perfect, which in my experience throws off the tracking solve. If we already had the distortion data, presumably that would make it easier for the software especially if shooting anamorphic, for example.

Thanks!

Attending Unreal Fest this year? Stop by our LED Virtual Production studio!

Hey all! Our VP studio (SMASH Virtual) is hosting an Unreal Fest satellite event this year. Our studio is just a 10 minute walk from the McCormick convention center, and we're opening our doors on the 18th.

Come check out a working LED volume and meet our team! We're at 2617 S Wabash, and we'll be hosting from 2pm-7pm on the 18th.

Hello all! I'm working on a project that involves user pluggable modules that communicate to each other, in a chain topology.

There will always be a "master" device, but the number of modules plugged into the chain is dynamic. And, ideally, the system is hot-pluggable.

My design constraints are that I'd like to maintain a reasonably fast speed (1mbps) up to 40 feet, and the modules themselves should be as small as possible (20mmx20mm.)

So far, it seems like my options are either RS232 (slow) or CAN/RS485 with either 2 separate channels per board (adds processing overhead to forward messages, maybe also slow) or some kind of auto-termination system (extra circuitry.)

Has anyone gone down this road before that can offer any advice? Thanks!
