About blackface
Disclaimer: I'm just being curious and i don't want to offend anyone, so that's why im asking
So first off, I'm white and grew up in a country with really few people of color so i dont really have anyone irl to ask about this who could actualy give me a valid answer.
I heard people complain about white cosplayers when they paint their skin a darker color when cosplaying a POC character and calling it blackface. When i first saw it i of couse googled the term and found out that blackface is when a non person of color paints themself black (or something along the lines) in order to mock dark skinned people (which i agree is genuinely very racist and disgusting). What i don't get is why it is a problem when the person cosplaying does it and it actualy looks good (and character accurate).
I don't feel like they are being racist or disrespectful, (to me) it looks like they are actualy appreciating it. I dont think it is necessary for the cosplay but i also dont feel like it's a problem (when done respectfully). Again, i am a white person and i dont understand it, that's why im asking so please dont get mad at me
Edit: oh yeah it's definitely bad. I want to thank anyone who responded and made me see the why i was wrong. But i also want to apologize because i now realised how rude my question was, which i NEVER wanted it to be (i apologied to the person after they made me see my error, but they deleted that comment to which I apologized to, so i just wanted to out it here so everyone can understand i realise how dumb and disrespectful i sounded)
