Why Do Gourmands Last so Much Longer in Body Mist Form?
So, technically, I (sort of…Google told me 😆) already know the answer but I wanted to see if anyone else experienced this as well. For reference, I grew up poor and things like Bath and Body Works were seen as a luxury. Once I began making big girl money, I bought my first body mist; Strawberry Poundcake. I know this body mist is seen as pretty unpopular especially if you dislike ultra synthetic, sickeningly sweet smells. Maybe it’s the nostalgia of this being my first perfume? Maybe it was the memories of the money I made while wearing it (I was a dancer)? Maybe I just like to smell like someone covered me in scented strawberry shortcake stickers? Regardless, I LOOOOOOVE this body mist.
Overtime, I wanted to branch out and try more bougie perfumes. I fell down this rabbit hole of studying perfumery and learning different scent profiles. And then around this time Kayali catches my eye. Their bottles literally looked like luxury, and the scent profiles remind me of a cake shop. I desperately wanted one of their perfumes. I couldn’t just get the sample because my brain couldn’t justify paying 30~ dollars for less than an ounce of product (I also really wanted this damn bottle 😆), so I began to look at reviews for the brand. I was pretty bummed to see most people reported bad longevity with their products
. So, I proceeded with my Bath and Body. SPC lasted 6-8 hours on me even without layering. Plus I developed an affinity for bare vanilla by VS around this point.
A few years go by, and a certain case comes back into the public eye, and I’m seeing a certain CEO get dragged through the mud (as he should) and I just began to feel really icky about shopping at his companies. So I began looking again at other companies that created gourmand perfumes. Needless to say, I’ve been really underwhelmed with how a lot of them have performed. It feels like a lot of them aren’t sweet enough or don’t have any longevity, yet alone projection. I have tried various layering techniques and none of them have really worked.
At this point, I’m so tired of shelling out money on EDP that are just meh. Am I alone in this? Is this just my nose? Or is this just really common experience for really sweet gourmand users? I understand the science behind this, but I haven’t really seen anyone discuss the short staying power of gourmand EDPs.
TLDR; Do you also notice really sweet, gourmand EDPs have short longevity or is it me? Am I the problem??? 👀🙊😂
