I remade my crochet husky based on your suggestions.
I included a side-by-side comparison with my last one.
I'm happy with the results, but am always looking to improve!
The tree is mature, it was thus big when we moved here 9 years ago (SE Michigan). It has bloomed every spring except this year. I trim it once a year, usually in the summer, when the branches start to get annoying low because I don't want to smack my head into them anymore.
I'm pretty sure it's past the time it would bloom because there are a couple of flowers, but lots of leaves.
I attached a photo from last year's bloom and what it looks like today. Yeah, looks a little sad compared to past years.
