Looking for a sanity check about finishing the bottom edge of a sweater
So I'm getting ready to make a sweater, and I'm going to be making it in panels and then sewing them together. Is there any reason I can't or shouldn't replace the semi standard ribbing with a long cable (made as a separate piece and then sewn on)? I am aware that ribbing is stretchy, and a cable the way I'm suggesting wouldn't be at all (especially after sewing it along the hem of the main panel), but if I wanted it to hang loose like the bottom of a t shirt anyways is there a reason I shouldn't do it? I can't find any existing examples of what I'm picturing, so I'm wondering if that's because this is a recipe for disaster in a way I'm not thinking of (or that it might be ugly, I think it would look cool but I might just have weird taste). Any input appreciated!
