How to play on time with a big group?

I play the accordion for a big group, nothing too serious, but I still want to do my best. One of my problems currently is that I kinda loose track of the tempo and fail to play with the right metric. I am not sure how to fix this, since we don't really have that much time to practice with together, and I do just fine while playing on my own.

I started making simple music for fun recently. I think I understand chords fairly well, I just need to check a bit better transitions from major to minor chords.

The thing is, when I start writing the melody I feel a bit lost. I know how to get and use the key from the chords, and that the melody shouldn't be all that jumpy, but struggle a bit when It comes to actually placing the notes down, and end up just putting random stuff out and mending my way to something that sounds good. This is surprisingly effective, but I would much rather understand why things work.

Thank you for any help you can give me!

I spent about a whole day in it, and while I'm not completely satisfied with it (at least with the melody) I'm pretty happy of how it turned out for a practice score.

I got very interested in music a few months ago, and I feel like I've done some decent progress.

The idea was to make it feel draggy, kinda heavy and stressed, even when I lead it to resolve I didn't want to let it rest, and I think I got it right in the end.

All that being said, I would love to get some constructive criticism so I can keep on learning, I'm still pretty new at this so any help would be appreciated! Thank you in advance.

I love the stradella system, it makes my life much easier, but sometimes I want to play with inversions and stuff, or sometimes a song has chord jumps that would be easier to do with the button configuration. I have seen things that are like this, but they aren't configured in either c or B griffs, which is what I would prefer.
