"From ... Your Royal Duchessness"

As I'm sure most of you who have read LSTUA have already noticed, on page 55 (2nd image), Lemony sends a letter to the Dairy, and the heading has "the desk of" crossed out, leaving "From Lemony Snicket".

While reviewing page 144 of LSTUA (1st image) to figure out part of my ASOUE timeline (when Duchess R's second masked ball happens), I noticed that this page has everything in the heading except for "from" crossed out and the thing immediately following it is "Your Royal Duchessness". When I originally read this page without including the heading it seemed that "Lemony" at the end of the message was meant to be Lemony singing off, but with "From Your Royal Duchessness" added at the start of the message, "Lemony" changes to being who is being spoken to.

I discussed this for a few minutes with my sister who is also into ASOUE and neither of us can come to a conclusion about why Duchess R. would be posing as Lemony to send this letter to him. I have way way way more questions about this 2nd masked ball now. Is Lemony is the one hosting it and they're pretending that the Duchess is the host to throw enemies off? Could this tie into why the Duchess' letter to Lemony shown earlier in the book was coded or written by an imposter? Maybe there's no real 2nd masked ball at all 🤔

When people talk along with/"narrate" a movie that I'm watching for the first time

It's so much worse when they're "talking along with" dialogue that HASN'T BEEN SAID YET. I don't care if it only comes up 2 seconds later so you aren't technically spoiling anything; If the dialogue is cool enough you feel the need to say it before/as the character is saying it, maybe consider that I want to hear it from the character and not from you.

I hate hate hate it when people talk out loud about something that's about to happen like they're the designated narrator of the movie. "Here comes [character who's not on screen yet]!" specifically grinds my gears. I'll see that that character is here when it SHOWS ME THEY'RE HERE. You don't need to let me know before the movie does

My older sister is the worst about this of any person I've ever been forced to watch a movie with. I watched all 3 Lord of the Rings movies + the first 2 Hobbit movies with her and my mom this week, and EVERY TIME someone said something funny she said it with/before them and EVERY TIME someone foreshadowed something she just had to point out the details of what it's foreshadowing. There wasn't a single twist that I didn't get spoiled for me right before it happening. Completely ruined my experience of watching these movies.

Here's a more specific example (with Hobbit spoilers): There's a bit near the end of the first Hobbit movie where someone (Bilbo, iirc) says something along the lines of "I reckon that was the hardest part of this journey" and immediately after my sister said "Hahahhaha NOPE. You've got a dragon to fight next movie". OBVIOUSLY that was dramatic irony and something worse is going to happen later on, but there's no reason you had to tell me exactly what the "worse later on" is going to be before I have all the hints to figure it out myself -_-

All major ASOUE covers

Lately I've noticed a bit of interest/confusion in r/ASOUE comment sections popping up about the different ASOUE (and sister book) covers, so I made a doc of all the majorly differing covers I could find, along with who published them and in what years:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/15ZwwmlT4FuUqz66uMeQNXBRoUgEbhZCItHBdFo5QT24/edit?tab=t.0#heading=h.mruov096uk67

(For people viewing this on mobile devices, I promise it looks better on desktop, and I wasn't just putting the cover images in whatever random order I want, lol)

This list does not include any of the versions where the only difference they have from the original US covers are color changes (such as the Spanish and Portuguese translations) or format (such as the Scholastic paperback versions). Also no fan-made covers

Sorry for the bad quality of some of the images :( I tried my best to get the highest quality possible, but there were limited options for a lot of them.

If I've missed any that you know of please let me know so I can add them!

Dyed my hair and my goose doesn't recognize me. What should I do?

I'm on the verge of tears so sorry if this gets rambly or sounds silly or like I'm overreacting.

My goose, "Miss Yapps-a-Lot," is a little over a year old and was raised by almost exclusively me. As a result she formed a very very tight bond to me. She's okay with other people but tends to get pretty scared and/or territorial if they try to pick her up or hold her for too long. For the entire time I've had her up until now, I've had the same mid-length dark brown hair.

Last night I dyed it purple and black. When I went out to feed Yapps this morning, I was scared that she might not realize I'm the same person, but she didn't bite me or run away or anything when I fed her, so I thought I was in the clear.

Came back a few hours later to see her like I do every day and she was kinda backing away from me. I assumed that sitting down next to her and letting her into my lap like I usually do would help her realize I'm not some random woman, but she completely ignored me and walked away. I haven't had her walk away from me while I'm sitting down the entire time I've had her. Yapps is the most sitting-in-my-lap loving creature I've ever had. Thought maybe she needed some motivation so I was going to try picking her up and putting her in my lap. Immediately as I stood up Yapps started panting and running away like she thought I was going to murder her. I felt so bad for scaring her I just went back inside.

Came back around 7pm to bring her to the backyard (because she tries to sleep in the chicken coop if I leave her in the front and the chickens don't like her). Usually this is an easy process and I can get her to the backyard by calling her there or I just walk to the back and let her follow me. She didn't respond to her name at all, didn't try to follow me where I was going, and started panting again when I got close enough to try to pick her up and carry her to the back. I went inside and got grapes because even if she doesn't love me anymore, I know she'll always love grapes. Led her to the backyard with the bundle of grapes just fine, but as soon I let her have the grapes, she ran away from me with them. She hasn't done any hissing or hard biting or anything like that, just panting and running.

I'm confident that if I keep interacting with Yapps like this (leaving her alone when she feels scared + offering for her to sit in my lap + giving her more grapes than she usually gets), I can build up a bond with her again. That part I'm not too scared about. The only thing I'm really really worried about happening is the possibility of her missing me and mourning me or eventually getting aggressive. I am (was) her biggest friend apart from the male goose she shares the backyard with (who I'm fairly certain recognizes me better than Yapps does btw). I'd hate to know that she's sad when she doesn't need to be

If she doesn't ever realize I'm still me, is there any way I can stop her from missing me. Is missing people even a thing geese do? Am I too worried about this? Any responses of any kind are very very appreciated
