I’m a fresh graduate currently in the UAE and I’m planning to start university soon. I’ve been thinking about taking the IELTS exam, but I’m a bit confused about the process here and whether it’s actually worth it at my stage.

Could someone guide me on:

Step-by-step process to register for IELTS in the UAE
- Where exactly do I book it?
- Which test centres are reliable (British Council / IDP, etc.)?
- How much does it usually cost?
Preparation
- How long should I realistically prepare for a decent score?
- Any good resources or coaching in UAE?
Is it worth it?
- Does it actually help a lot for university admissions (especially in UAE / abroad)?
- Or is it only necessary if I’m going to the UK/Canada/Australia?
- As a fresh graduate, should I do it now or wait until I apply for uni?

I just want to make sure I’m not wasting time or money if it’s not necessary right now. Any advice from people who’ve done it recently in the UAE would be really helpful.
