Hey everyone,

I’m an international student and I recently got accepted into the University of Edinburgh for my Bachelor's. I’m really happy about the offer, but I’m also trying to make a very careful decision because of the financial side.

The total cost of my degree (tuition + living) would come to around £170k–£190k, which is a huge investment for me as an international student. So I wanted to get some honest insights before committing.

A few things I’m unsure about:

  • Is Edinburgh actually worth this level of investment for an international student?
  • How is the quality of education, especially for AI/CS or business+economics degree-related degrees?
  • What are the real job prospects after graduation in Tech fields, especially for international students who may need visa sponsorship?

From what I’ve seen, many graduates do go into jobs or further study, but I also understand the current job market is quite competitive.

Another concern I have is that my course doesn’t include a placement year, whereas I also have an offer from another university that does offer a year in industry. So I wanted to ask:

  • Does Edinburgh offer any kind of support similar to placements, internships, or strong industry connections?
  • How much does not having a placement year affect employability?

Also, if there are any alumni here, I’d really appreciate hearing:

  • What kind of salary range you started with after graduation
  • How difficult it was to secure your first job (especially an international student)

Overall, I’m just trying to understand:

Is Edinburgh worth £170k–£190k for undergrad, considering ROI and job prospects?

I’d really appreciate honest opinions — good or bad — especially from current students or graduates.

Thank you so much!

Hey everyone,

I’m an international undergraduate student and I’ve recently received an offer from the University of Birmingham, and I had a few questions about student life and accommodation.

First, about housing:

  • Is on-campus accommodation good, or is it better to stay off-campus?
  • How is the cleanliness of the accommodations? (I’m quite particular about hygiene 😭) Also, do you recommend any particular accommodation or area?
  • How safe is the campus and student housing in general and the city?
  • Are there any restrictions on returning to your accommodation in on-campus housing, like curfews or fixed times at night, or is it flexible?
  • Is anyone currently looking for a roommate or open to sharing accommodation?

Also, I wanted to understand more about student life and extracurriculars:

  • How is student life overall? Is it fun and engaging?
  • How active are clubs and societies?

I’m really into basketball and volleyball, so:

  • Are there good courts/facilities available on campus?
  • Can students actively participate in these sports?
  • Are there inter-university tournaments or competitions we can be part of?
  • Are there girls team for the above entioned sports? Would really appreciate honest insights from current students or anyone familiar with the uni!

Thanks a lot :)

Hey everyone,

I recently got into the University of Birmingham for BSc Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science (with a Year in Industry), and I wanted to understand the ground reality before committing.

From what I understand, the structure is:

  • 2 years of academic study
  • 3rd year = industry placement
  • 4th year = final year project

My main concern is about the industry year — how real is it?

  • Do students actually manage to secure placements for that year, or is it very competitive and mostly self-driven?
  • How much support does the university provide in finding these placements?
  • Do people get pre-placement offers (PPOs) from these roles, or do they usually still have to job hunt after graduating?
  • Since we return for final year, does that affect converting internships into full-time roles?

Also, I wanted to ask about placements after graduation:

  • How are the job prospects for AI/CS students from Birmingham?
  • Realistically, how hard is it to land a job after graduating?

I’m an international student, so this is a big financial decision for me. I’ll likely be taking a loan, so I really need to understand:

  • Do international students from this program actually get jobs in the UK?
  • Or is it very difficult in the current market?

I’ve seen mixed opinions online, so I’d really appreciate honest insights from current students or alumni.

Thanks a lot!
