Private vs IES vs PSU job Which to Choose? -- Need Honest Advice

Hi everyone,

I’m in a bit of a dilemma and would really appreciate some honest advice from people who’ve been through this or have experience in either path.

Background:

  • Graduated this year from a Tier-1 college (Electrical & Electronics)
  • Currently working in a semiconductor company with ~15 LPA package
  • Role is decent and growth seems okay for now

The confusion: My parents strongly want me to go for a government job (PSU or ESE). My father has worked in private jobs all his life and based on his experience, he values job security + stability a lot.

On the other hand, people I talk to in private sector say:

  • They chose private mainly for higher earnings and growth
  • Some regret lack of stability
  • Some don’t care because they prioritize money and flexibility

Now with things like the 8th Pay Commission expected in future, the government side also seems financially better than before, which adds to my confusion.

What I personally want , I want financial freedom — to travel without worrying, take care of my parents, and give them experiences like traveling abroad

The problem: Whenever I ask someone, I get very different opinions:

  • “Take PSU/ESE for peace of mind”
  • “Stay in private for money and growth”
  • “Depends on you” (which doesn’t help 😅)

My questions:

  1. For someone in my situation, is leaving a 15 LPA private job for ESE/PSU a good move?
  2. How big is the real difference in long-term money between PSU and private (considering promotions, pay commissions, etc.)?
  3. Do people regret choosing PSU over private or vice versa?
  4. If your goal is money + decent lifestyle, which path makes more sense?

I’d really appreciate perspectives from:

  • PSU employees
  • People who prepared for ESE or are in ESE
  • People working long-term in private core/electronics roles

Thanks in advance!
