Solved!

Got a new mac air (TB4) and investigating how to integrate that with a dock into desk full of non-TB peripherals & screens.

Eyeing the iVanky FusionDock Pro 3

  • TB5 future proof
  • 2.5GBE
  • Abundance of TB5 ports

So that's looking great, except my two (slightly dated) screens are Displayport which that dock doesn't have.

  • 60hz 4k
  • 144hz 3,840 x 1,080
  • No DSC support on the screens

I see USB-C/Thunderbolt to displayport cables are pretty cheap though so thinking of getting the TB5 dock and working around the lack of DP.

Questions:

  1. Will that work in principle?

  2. Specifically concerned about cable plan dropping me to 10gbps compatibility on video out. Research suggests 10gbps isn't enough for the 144hz screen at that res and DSC won't save the day. The labelling on these cables has so many standards in the product name that I can't tell how it would connect in practice. Usb-c 10gig or TB3/4/5

Thanks
