Help with values please

Hey guys, I have the following devices that I want to sell and I have no idea what I should sell them for. Please let me know your opinions!

2015 13in MacBook Air
2013 21.5in iMac
2011 27in Thunderbolt Display

I got a $50 offer for the Thunderbolt Display but I feel like that’s extremely low and I may as well hang onto it for that.

I love the way the displays are built and look even 15 years later but the resolution is quite bad now. Is it worth it to hang onto any of these items or get what I can for them?

I built a free open-source tool that turns an Intel iMac into a 5K Thunderbolt display for Apple Silicon Macs

I wanted a real use for old 5K Intel iMacs after Apple killed Target Display Mode, so I built TargetBridge.

It lets an Apple Silicon Mac stream its desktop over a direct Thunderbolt cable to an Intel iMac (2017+) using Thunderbolt Bridge, with profiles up to 5K HEVC.

What it does:

- direct Mac-to-Mac over Thunderbolt

- mirror mode and extended desktop mode

- up to 5120×2880 streaming

- free and open source

Latest stable release:

TargetBridge v1.3.0

https://github.com/swellweb/targetBridge/releases/latest

GitHub:

https://github.com/swellweb/targetBridge

Requirements:

- Apple Silicon Mac as sender

- Intel iMac 2017+ as receiver

- Thunderbolt 3/4 cable

- macOS 14+ on the sender

- macOS 13+ on the receiver

I’m also working on direct multi-iMac support, but that is not part of the stable release yet.

If anyone here has unusual Thunderbolt setups, daisy-chain experiments, or multiple Macs/iMacs, I’d love feedback.

Master thread for all USB4 hubs/docks with downstream USB4 ports and PD passthrough

Please post USB4 hubs with USB4 downstream ports and powered with USB-PD here.

Any USB4 endpoint device without USB4 downstream ports does not count.

I only know of one so far:
https://www.shophagibis.com/products/thunderbolt-4-docking-station-8k-40gbps

It does not seem to have DRP, and it only has 2x USB4 DFP, but appears to be the best we have for now.

My gold standard:

- PD passthrough at least 140W input (no barrel jack power) but ideally 180W in, 140W out

- DRP (dual-role power, can run from the host's power or via PD passthrough port)

- At least 3x USB4 downstream ports (ideally 80Gb/s to justify premium price, but 40Gb/s is still useful at moderate price)

- No HDMI, USB-A or other legacy ports

- Extra ports in the form of USB-C 3.0 ports are welcome

- M.2 NVMe slot is welcome

The idea is to be able to carry your dock with you when travelling and just use your laptop charger to power it and your laptop, rather than requiring another cumbersome power brick. Imagine bringing a little hub with an SSD inside which can power your laptop, portable monitors and connect other devices without needing its own power brick.

My "better than nothing" standard:

- Everything above except DRP, and adding HDMI or USB-A is fine if they don't sacrifice USB-C ports for them

My non-negotiables:

- Absolutely no captive cables under any circumstances whatsoever

- I will not buy anything in 2026 which could run off USB-C power but doesn't

I acknowledge that the power from the host would not be enough to run everything, but it should just do best-effort. Allocate power within its budget, and after that, the downstream ports can talk to self-powered devices. If full capability is required, attach the 140W USB-PD input and it should power everything up without resetting the data links between already running devices.

I hope that other people agree and will tell manufacturers to get with the times. To avoid customer support calls, I would advise writing on the dock "Requires 15W for basic function or 45W for full function" or similar, somewhere prominent and maybe a QR code to a support page explaining charger requirements. The vast majority of laptops have USB4 now, and they are effectively mandated to support 15W PD, leaving no ports in the wild with the supposed minimum 7.5W.

Another note: USB-PD includes the standard for power banks to report their battery charge to your laptop, but has never been implemented in a consumer power bank. Start asking them why they have not done this.

Probably does not exist but figured i would ask

Is there a system where i could plug my devices outputs into a "reverse dock" kinda thing, send that data down a thunderbolt cable to another dock?

To explain, my pc does not have thunderbolt onboard, and from what i understand i cant add thunderbolt to it natively, ie i cant put a thunderbolt adapter in. So i was thinking, i wonder if there is a way to put all the outputs into a thunderbolt signal, send it over a cable to a thunderbolt dock to then plug in the peripherals.

The reason is i am toying with the idea of having my desktop rack mounted elsewhere in the house and i would run thunderbolt from it through the walls to where my monitor etc is. I know that upgrading my pc to support thunderbolt natively would be the best, but im just trying to see if i can get around this in some way.

Like i said in the title, probably doesnt exist, but you never know

Best dock for MacBook Pro M5 Pro with 3 external monitors + USB peripherals?

Hey guys, looking for a budget-friendly dock for my MacBook Pro (M5 Pro).

Setup:

Samsung Odyssey G5 34" (want full 240Hz support over DP) 2x BenQ GW2790QT

Need to run all 3 monitors + USB peripherals (keyboard, mouse, SSD, etc.) for coding/productivity.

Main thing is I don’t want the Samsung limited because of the dock. Ideally want the ultrawide running at full potential.

Any good dock recommendations for this setup on macOS? And should I avoid DisplayLink ?

CalDigit TS5+ vs Sonnet Tech Echo 20 TB 5

Bonjour.

Looking for TB5 dock for my MBP - 10gbe, nvme, lot of usb devices.

Looking for advice for my macbook pro with tb5 ports. I currently have an ivanky fusion max 1 that i'm looking to replace to get tb5 bandwidth. I will probably replace this mbp with a macbook studio in the near future.

My requirements are a little weird because I have a ton of lower bandwidth USB devices and I’ve already run into USB topology port tree depth issues when daisy chaining usb hubs off tb docks. Unfortunatly it took some trial and error with the 8 port usb hub I have and i returned 3 docks before i landed on the ivanky fusion max 1.

Current needs:

  • 3x 4K monitors
  • 10GbE
  • Around 10 USB devices total (mix of USB-A and USB-C, mostly low bandwidth)
  • 2 external NVMe drives
    • one dedicated for Time Machine backups
  • Occasionally plugging in 1-2 external HDDs, or other random usb devices

Right now I’m debating between a few options:

iVANKY FusionDock Ultra This is probably my leading option right now.

Pros:

Built-in 10GbE

integrated cooling fan (i've read the cal digit ts5 plus overheats)

I should be able to use 1 display port and 2 tb downstream ports for my monitors leaving 2 tb5 downstream free for nvme

11 USB A/C ports means i may not need usb hub.

I'm familar with ivanky as i alreay have one of their docks.

the dual tb5 controllers (and dual upstream cables) means no DSC for triple displays.

Cons:

No built-in NVMe port.

Expensive.

UGREEN Thunderbolt 5 Max Dock OR Satechi Thunderbolt 5 Cube Dock

Pros:

integrated NVMe slot, which would simplify one of my SSDs.

Cheaper

Cons

Need a separate TB 10GbE adapter (add $150-$200).

i'd definitly need to keep a usb hub in the mix.

May wind up with DSC with 3 displays

Budget wise, I really don’t want to exceed the ~$650 price of the iVANKY setup. I’m also not opposed to running two docks if that ends up being the cleaner/more reliable solution, but i'm not sure it can be done at my price point, looks like for dual tb5 docks i'd be closer to $800, and dual docks seems silly.

EDIT: Formatting

Thunderbolt 4 Dock Advice

Hey all, I'm looking for some advice on Thunderbolt 4 docks. I'll be starting to work from home towards the end of this year and would love to have a single plug setup to swap between my personal ROG Zephyrus G16 and work Lenovo ThinkPad. Both have a Thunderbolt 4 port but the G16 will actually be a two plug setup as it requires the proprietary slim power jack for best performance.

I currently have a 1440p 240hz monitor and plan to add a secondary budget monitor (either 1080p or 1440p 60hz).

My question is, will I realistically be able to drive both monitors and have bandwidth for other peripherals (mouse, keyboard, headset, storage drives) over a single Thunderbolt 4 port? And if so, can anyone recommend some good docks?

Currently considering these 2 but would welcome some more budget options:
- CalDigit
- StarTech
