I’m really interested in gay history as it relates to popular music, and someone told me one of The Beach Boys is gay. Who is it?

Hello everyone! I have been a blood donor for 8 years now. When I donated whole blood today, I was informed that instead of my blood being sent to a hospital as usual, it was going to be used in a first responder trauma kit on a helicopter that very same day. This was the first time I have ever had this happen. For me, this just meant the clamping they used was slightly different. They also said that blood used for this purpose must meet stricter requirements than other blood donated and that they try to get a few whole blood donors a day for this.

I didn’t want to bombard the employees with too many questions, but I’m a naturally curious person and I’m finding surprisingly little information on donated blood used for this purpose. So, I am wondering: what are the eligibility requirements? I donate with Bloodworks Northwest in the US, but people who know about this when it comes to any blood bank in any country are welcome to provide input. I’m O+ which I am certain played a role since I know that is the usual blood type used in immediate emergency situations. Are there any other typical requirements?

Does anyone here know anything else about how blood is processed for this purpose? Has anyone else had their blood used for a trauma kit? I want to hear about it!

Long shot, but I had a brief interaction with a fellow Beach Boys fan at the 8/20/26 La Luz concert in Seattle, WA, and I’d like to get to know him better as I would love to make a Beach Boys fan friend in Seattle. He was wearing a red shirt and jeans and approached me in my Love You shirt and mentioned Ding Dang and Shortenin’ Bread.

If you were this person and are reading this, feel free to DM me! If you’re not on this subreddit, it just wasn’t meant to be. But I thought I’d give it a shot. I’ll just say: if you’re the kind of Beach Boys fan to know what Ding Dang is, it’s very possible that you’ve made it to this subreddit.

I’m currently recreating the Love You album cover with cross stitch, as some others here have done if you search for it.

This project has been a lot of fun, but it has made me acutely aware that there are some color inconsistencies between my original pressing vinyl sleeve, which I am mostly using as my pattern, and most versions of the album cover I see online. For example, the space between the yellow and pink on the top left bird looks more purple on my sleeve but more blue on most online versions.

I’m just going to choose the colors that I think look good. I don’t need advice on aligning with either the original sleeve or digital versions for this project. But, I am curious: has anyone else noticed these inconsistencies, and does anyone know why they may be? I feel like it may go deeper than just CMYK-RGB conversion as I have seen some digital scans of original sleeves that also look more purple in the place I mentioned.
