With his brace yesterday, Harry Kane already scored 69 goals this season: the 2nd best of any player in the 21st century

Harry Kane just equaled Cristiano Ronaldo's best goalscoring season ever and Messi's 2nd best goalscoring season ever, with 69 goals (club + country).

The top spot belongs - of course - to Messi, who scored a record 82 goals in the 2011-2012 season.

If, however, we consider Romario 2000's season, then the second place belongs to the brazilian, who scored 73 goals during that campaign.

Edit: For comparison purposes, as of today, Haaland scored 53 goals (his best is 56 in 2022-2023) and Mbappe 50 (his best is 53 in 2022-2023).

Edit 2: Even if we compare Kane's goalscoring season with players from the 1970s onwards (before that, the data starts to get really incomplete and even unreliable), he only has one other person ahead of him: Gerd Muller scored 73 goals in the 1972-1973 season.

Edit 3: Considering career official goals (senior top-tier clubs + national A teams), Harry Kane now sits in 24th place of all time, with 507 goals, leaving behind Hugo Sánchez (506). He's the first Englishman on the list.

Ahead of him only Roberto Dinamite (513), Karim Benzema (523), György Sárosi (530), Alfredo Di Stéfano (537), Jimmy McGrory (550), Uwe Seeler (552), Fernando Peyroteo (553), Imre Schlosser (553), Zlatan Ibrahimović (561), Glenn Ferguson (563), Eusébio (578), Luis Suárez (606), Abe Lenstra (624), Joe Bambrick (626), Gerd Müller (634), Jimmy Jones - the top British player on this list (639), Robert Lewandowski (697), Josef Bican (722), Ferenc Puskás (725), Romário (756), Pelé (762), Lionel Messi (914) and Cristiano Ronaldo (973).

As of today, Mbappé has 427 and Haaland has 354.
