Modded Regions Review pt.3
Disclaimer: Everything stated here is my own opinion and I do not think of it as objective. Even if I may not enjoy a region I still have a lot of respect for the modder(s) to even finish such large amount of work. I played through all regions as Survivor.
Feel free to discuss in the comments if you agree, disagree or just want to add your own opinion!
For my third run around I added Howling Rift, Eroded Refinery, went through the mast to Overgrown Urban and continued through the Underpass to Consecrated Steppe.
Howling Rift (D-Tier):
This is one of the regions I was really excited about, but playing it I realized it simply was not for me. The oppressive atmosphere was great and the art very fitting, but this regions featured all the creatures i dislike most: it had Miros Birds, but with very little cover or flashbangs like in Memory Crypts. It featured Miros Fultures, which I never really enjoyed and it had spitter spiders, which were actually not so bad to avoid as the regions gave you enough cover and alternative routes in the lower parts.
This region could be something for you if you want to get immersed in this oppressive atmosphere and don't mind the creature spawns.
Eroded Refinery (S-Tier):
This region was the best I have experienced in modded regions this far! The region features new creatures and fruits, which make this a really fresh experience for everyone who has played quite a bit of rainworld.
The region features subregions, memorable rooms, alternative routes and landmarks, which is always a big plus point for me. Scaling the large excavator to reach the echo was pretty great and memorable, especially because of the music:
The music was awesome! This region features so many new tracks, that help in creating its atmosphere and immerse you in this old brine excavation plant (?).
I recommend this region as a must-play.
Overgrown Urban (B-Tier):
The region was great to look at and explore. It is pretty unique in that it shows a rather intact Iterator city, very different to Metropolis. However the gameplay could get rather unforgiving as some shelters were rather far apart. Overall a nice B-Tier region.
Underpass (C-Tier):
A very large, confusing to navigate region. It really sells hte feeling of being within these tight, convoluted transport networks. It also had a nice gimick with pipes that shoot you out at a fast velocity to reach far away platforms.
However large parts of the region look very similiar, which overall made it less interesting to explore.
But if I understand it correctly the creator intends this to be kind of a hub world to reach future far away regions in a way that they don't have to connect to base game regions.
In that way I think it succeeds.
Consecrated Steppe (B-Tier):
A region with new creatures. This is always a plus in my book. The region looked great, was fun to explore, but overall felt more like a "transition area" if that makes sense. The creator intends for it to connect to new regions far away from pebble's grounds and I am pretty excited to see them when they eventually release.

A: Stormy Coast, Coral Caves, The Mast
