Airline Travel While Pumping

Airline Travel while Pumping

I will begin traveling for work about 2 days a month at 3 months PP. LO will be staying with Daddy.

I plan to pump while traveling to keep up my supply. However, what do I do with the milk? Must I just dump it?

The very idea pains my heart. But how do I transport the milk without spoiling it? I should have access to a hotel freezer and fridge. But can you take milk through the airport?

I am currently getting around 30 ounces daily.

Will be eating Great Value Raisin Bread Until Further Notice

Gestational diabetes rant of the evening.

My sugar has been high all day. I spiked from eating raspberries and string cheese, spiked on cucumbers and quinoa and grilled chicken, spiked to 300 from my black bean and eggs for breakfast. The lowest number I saw was 140.

Tell me why then, that in my ravenous hunger and moment of weakness tonight I scarfed down THREE slices of the great value brand raisin bread that our shopper brought us in lieu of the daves killer bread (diabetic approved and whole grain blah blah that spikes me)

Only for my sugar to suddenly decide it likes cheap sugary white bread, and settle at a happy 97 for the past hour plus.

Thanks for coming to my Ted talk. If you need me I will be shooting up insulin and eating great value white bread without insulin.

OB Declined CSection to "have as many children as possible "

Prestory: I have a baby with severe fetal growth restriction and sketchy dopplers- so I am asking for a csection over risking a vaginal birth.

I had an appointment today and as my regular doctor could not see me, I saw a substitute doctor. I brought up planned csection as we are concerned that we are bringing baby here safely and would prefer to avoid a emergency csection. Well, instead of addressing my immediate concerns about this current pregnancy and baby's health and safety, the doctor started telling me she prefers people to not do csection because it affects fertility and has a high risk of major organ damage??? I know csection is a major abdominal surgery. But if it really is such a risk to fertility and organs I have never heard anyone else talk about this. She also brought up five separate times in the conversation about being sure I am able to have as many children as possible, even 4 or 5 if I want. I told her my husband and I have decided this is our only child due to all the extreme health complications with this pregnancy and my genetic disease. She says people often change their minds and want several more children.

I was so taken off guard and did not feel heard. If they actually think I can deliver safely vaginally I would love to hear about that but the talking points were "have as many children as possible " and "you are likely to change your mind" I see my regular OB next week and will bring up the conversation again but now I am anxious.

Advice and Experiences Needed

Asking for elective csection

Hi Fellow parents!

I am asking for advice/ experiences. I wont go into all the details, but we are looking at delivering a severely growth restricted baby in the next 2 weeks. I am a few weeks into my 3rd trimester so the baby will be moderately premature.

When I got pregnant and found out we had health complications, we told the doctors we still really wanted a vaginal birth. However, the information we have and circumstances have changed and my husband and I are seriously reconsidering. We have several factors that make it quite likely we will still end up with a csection even if we induce. The doctors are willing to try induction first but warned us that the first sign of fetal stress will be an immediate csection. Additionally baby has been head down only briefly but is mostly just swimming around like a fish because she has so much room to move.

Ultimately, we are asking ourselves if we will have a better experience overall by conserving energy with an elective csection versus trying so hard to have a vaginal birth, maybe still having a csection and then caring for a Nicu baby.

We are also concerned that asking for an elective csection makes us at risk of insurance declining to cover the csection.

Has anyone here asked to have an elective csection? What has your experience been like?

Or, do you regret not asking for an elective csection?

Also, any words of advice on the insurance side. We plan to talk to the doctor tomorrow about it but are looking for others experiences first, to help us get a broader understanding of what to expect and how to have an ideal of birth as possible.

Thanks so much!

Giving up on careful

If you have been following me you know that everything spikes me despite night time insulin. I am probably starting fast acting next week. Well since 12 weeks I have been so careful with everything I've put in my mouth. The last 10 weeks in particular have been brutal with everything increasingly spiking me.

Im 32 weeks and struggling with lots of dark thoughts and constantly starving and feeling like I am dying. Tonight I gave up on carb counting, walking, eating protein.

I indulged in the largest plate of goat biryani with cucumber raiti. Indiscriminately shoveled the whole plate into my mouth like one starving. I have never felt so satiated. And now why did I only go to 183 and was under 115 within 2 hours?! You need to understand i am regularly over 250. I think my new strategy is eat biryani lol.

Gestational diabetes and FGR?

I am looking for other stories of people who had GD and FGR. I am 30 weeks and change. We still aren't sure when baby girl was conceived so they pushed my date back two weeks at my 20 weeks scan due to her being tiny. Now she has fallen behind again and is measuring 2lb. 5 Oz. At 30 weeks.

Has anyone else had similar experiences? What are your stories? I know in some ways my experience is opposite of most GD moms because shes too small. But I then have anxiety about her oxygen as high sugar can restrict oxygen and that is a larger concern with FGR. I am on insulin and twice a week BPP. The doctors are trying to get us to 36 weeks unless she falls farther behind or they are concerned about her oxygen.

Increase Carb intake?

I have been on a CGM for a large amount of this pregnancy. Recently, my insulin resistance is definitely increasing. My provider wants me to increase my carbs? Any ideas on how to do this! We are a very veggie and chicken and Greek yogurt type of household. Carbs are not something we keep alot of on hand aside from occasional starchy vegetables or sprouted breads. How do you possibly get more carbs in? For reference, I am eating around 75 g of carbs a day, mostly from my fruits and veggies and peanuts I eat. What carbs are people eating?

Adding to clarify. What recipes are you using to eat carbs? I know beans and potatoes etc are carbs but as I have eaten low carb most of my life due to genetic heart condition I genuinely have no idea how to incorporate these in an appetizing way aside from boxfuls of donuts which sounds awful and overpoweringly sweet and constipating

Fasting Sugar Higher than Post Meal

Why is my fasting blood sugar consistently higher than my last sugar from a meal?

For example, last night after eating a southwest salad with chicken, my sugar was 108. This morning, my fasting sugar was 119. I did not eat anything besides water in the 12ish hours in between.

The day before, my sugar was 113 after eating a burger without a bun, and veggies. Again, no snacks after. Then in the morning my fasting sugar was 121.

Make it make sense.
