Morocco’s World Cup Spending: Economic Activity vs Real Development.

Many developing countries spend huge amounts of money hosting events like the FIFA World Cup even though they have more important priorities such as education, healthcare, and industry. Politicians claim these events boost the economy and create jobs, which is partly true, but they mainly create temporary economic activity rather than real long-term development. Most profits go to large corporations, hotels, sponsors, and construction companies, while ordinary citizens see little lasting improvement in income or public services. After the event ends, the country is often left with debt, higher costs, and expensive infrastructure to maintain. Real economic growth comes from education, technology, industry, and productive investment, not from short-term international events. My whole point is that economic activity mainly benefits certain groups of elite individuals, while economic development benefits society as a whole.
