To anyone who improved balance and therefore their walking…

What did you do?

I am doing standing on one leg while cleaning my teeth twice a day for a week - too early to expect visible changes?

What did you do and how did it help your walking?

Go a gym too

One Leg Stand while cleaning teeth

Today was day 5 of this - twice a day cleaning my teeth for 2 mins while doing oneleg stand with hand on sink for support. The four days previous to this were very tense and stiff etc. Today was alarming for the difference. I had 4-5 hours of great feeling. Much easier walking, better balance but now tonight extremely stiff etc again. Was so pleased this afternoon but hoping tomorrow will be better again.

One Leg Stand

Hello, so i am doing the one leg stand while brushing my teeth. Maybe 19 seconds on each leg with a hand for support. Howevee my balance now is really bad and shaky. Is this because my body isn’t used to it so needs to strengthen etc or something else?

My progress

Now about 12 weeks into this, no days off yet.

Doing longer walks now and can stay on my feet for 25-30 mins 2 x a day.

My walking quality not hugely improved but i can walk further.

Plus i don’t need my wife to come watching my son play football now. I’m now brave enough to go on my own and see what happens.

Also going into shops and walking up and down every aisle.

I was told to use sticks and get a wheelchair.

This is my retaliation.

Balance work - is this necessary?

Ok physios will promote this.

But i went to a rehab place in February who did nothing on balance and instead used a machine and gym work - weights. No balance work.

Where do you stand?

Walking Progress

Ok been on holiday the past week but kept up my one minute a day improvement on the previous day.

My walking isn’t perfect and it tires at points but i stay on my feet quite well.

I am now up to 31 minutes which would have been a dream a while back. i don’t walk for 31 mins but i do a mix of walking and stopping.

im putting this on here to inspire others but im at a very low point and need inspiration.

my feet and legs don’t work now very week so any inspiration greatly received!

Waking Progress

So i am on my 8th week now and i have switched to 1-2 walks day - increasing by a minute each day. I’m on 16 mins now. When i am out walking in shops it’s ok. I can keep moving and stop to look st things etc. So it’s going well on that front.

Bit it absolutely floors me after. For people who have done this, is this common? and is it because we are teaching our bodies again?

any words of hope greatly received and appreciated.

Part 2 - I was (is) someone who wants to work hard at this…

Inwas told that wouldn’t work. i had to accept it. but people on here who succeed SEEM to work had at improving walking, being able to jog etc. I understand being more accepting but you HAVE to work hard to improve?

Who is from the UK and do you think the health advice for this is helpful?

I was told “accept it” and there’s nothing you can do. Just get the stick and a wheelchair ready. What are your thoughts?

For people who did ONE walk per day…

And your walking improved. Why only one? i’ve been doing 5-7 VERY short walks a day but wake up very unsteady the next day and my walking worse. Did you experience this and was it the reason you only did one? Build slowly?
