First student to be dismissed by the CELTA provider in their entire history.
Hello
I am from India with C1+ English proficiency.
I interviewed for 50 minutes for the CELTA course, the Interviewee was so impressed by my teaching skills with also solid language awareness and accuracy, that the person shortened it to 30 minutes.
I was then highly applauded for my pre-course task.
I was then placed in a group of 4 with advanced English skills where I was going to be taught from upper-intermediate to pre-intermediate.
Then as my birthday came 3 days before, I messed up on some work and lagged in my work, as the course started 5 days ago.
I could also not use zoom technology and misread the intended teaching lesson during the teaching assessment practice as I did it very late in the night, because of which it also became disastrous and also due to the lack of proper use of zoom technology and as it was first my time teaching adults, given that I had only experience teaching young learners.
This shows how over-confident I was and which led to my downfall, even though the potential was there.
Fortunately, I am going to receive a full refund.
With that scenario, I get the dubious situation of achieving the unwanted first rank in an Institution, which has had a 100% success rate and never has any student fallen in this situation in their 20 year history.
I had prepared for around 30 days for this with an online tutor from Preply to get into CELTA.
This has ruined all my dreams for teaching at HESS in Taiwan for the August 2026 start, I am done as a teacher, thanks to my carelessness and due to the low wages which a teacher gets even at a International school in India.
I will now pack my bags and make a move to Canada and take up an entry level job in Canada, as I am a Canadian passport holder, apply for my SIN online, get the job and move to that place, where I will put my tourism degree and communication skills to use and do what I truly wanted to do in life, while I also put food on my table for some time.
In the end it was the unpredicted downfall which nobody in that institution could predict, based on their letter of the dismissal email.
This has given me a life lesson:
Do not sacrifice hard work over pleasure, the Intention to spend the whole day on my birthday by not working at all, when I was supposed to work, which happened on a Wednesday and was also a holiday caused this situation.
Just bad luck in the end.
