TEFL Job prospects

I’m from India and have a Bachelor’s degree in Communicative English. I’m considering a 168-hour TEFL course from TTA Academy.
How are my job prospects after completing it, especially as a non-native English speaker? Would the TEFL alone be enough, or should I eventually do a CELTA as well?
I am also planning to pursue a PGCE in the future.

Be honest: do you think TEFL is still worth it in 2026?

Genuine question.

With changes in online teaching, AI tools, pay rates, competition, and visa/work situations in some countries do you still think TEFL is a good long-term path or more of a stepping stone now?

Would love honest perspectives from teachers currently in it.

First student to be dismissed by the CELTA provider in their entire history.

Hello

I am from India with C1+ English proficiency.

I interviewed for 50 minutes for the CELTA course, the Interviewee was so impressed by my teaching skills with also solid language awareness and accuracy, that the person shortened it to 30 minutes.

I was then highly applauded for my pre-course task.

I was then placed in a group of 4 with advanced English skills where I was going to be taught from upper-intermediate to pre-intermediate.

Then as my birthday came 3 days before, I messed up on some work and lagged in my work, as the course started 5 days ago.

I could also not use zoom technology and misread the intended teaching lesson during the teaching assessment practice as I did it very late in the night, because of which it also became disastrous and also due to the lack of proper use of zoom technology and as it was first my time teaching adults, given that I had only experience teaching young learners.

This shows how over-confident I was and which led to my downfall, even though the potential was there.

Fortunately, I am going to receive a full refund.

With that scenario, I get the dubious situation of achieving the unwanted first rank in an Institution, which has had a 100% success rate and never has any student fallen in this situation in their 20 year history.

I had prepared for around 30 days for this with an online tutor from Preply to get into CELTA.

This has ruined all my dreams for teaching at HESS in Taiwan for the August 2026 start, I am done as a teacher, thanks to my carelessness and due to the low wages which a teacher gets even at a International school in India.

I will now pack my bags and make a move to Canada and take up an entry level job in Canada, as I am a Canadian passport holder, apply for my SIN online, get the job and move to that place, where I will put my tourism degree and communication skills to use and do what I truly wanted to do in life, while I also put food on my table for some time.

In the end it was the unpredicted downfall which nobody in that institution could predict, based on their letter of the dismissal email.

This has given me a life lesson:

Do not sacrifice hard work over pleasure, the Intention to spend the whole day on my birthday by not working at all, when I was supposed to work, which happened on a Wednesday and was also a holiday caused this situation.

Just bad luck in the end.

Looking for my best options for a certification for teaching in thailand

Hello! I am a 21 year old American female with a BS in environmental science and have 1 year of teaching experience in the states. I am planning on moving to Chiang Mai, Thailand around October of this year and am looking for advice on my TEFL certification. This move is not permanent, but I am looking to stay for just a few years or so. My budget is around $350 USD for a certification but even after all my research I don't feel confident in any of my options. Should I try for a US teaching certification instead? Are the online courses accredited? Is the job placement assistance necessary? Is there better options that I should look into?

Looking for any and all advice! Thanks!

In-person TEFL course/visa/emigration experiences post-brexit?

Afternoon, I'm a British citizen currently looking at options to emigrate to Prague and would like to get some advice and feedback on the in-person TEFL courses / visa experiences ? I'm trying to wrap my head around the trade license Živno application process, mandatory health insurance rules, future tax operations etc. and I'm just feeling a little overwhelmed now with all the research done. I think that the TEFL course-route is the best option for me however i'm just confused as to how these courses can secure you getting a job in the country? All the TEFL houses i've researched have guaranteed a job position for the first six months however in order to get a trade license I was under the impression that you had to have a job offer for a minimum of 12 months? Also, after completing the course, the idea of hopping the boarder whilst you wait for the outcome of the Živno also sounds very confusing? In regards to the embassy visits, paperwork, annual tax returns (which is a whole naother thing) do people just hire companies to help them with this? I'm hoping this all makes sense as i'm trying not to ramble too much; I've got alot of planning to do i'm just not so sure where to start! Thank you for any information or advice!

TEFL recommendations.

Hello everyone,
I’m currently looking into getting a TEFL/TESOL certificate and was hoping to get some recommendations from people who have already gone through the process.
There seem to be a lot of options available, ranging from inexpensive online courses to more expensive programs such as Oxford Seminars. While Oxford Seminars appears to offer additional support like job placement assistance and guidance during the job search, many other programs seem to focus primarily on the certification itself.
For those who have completed a TEFL/TESOL course, which program did you choose, and did you feel the cost was justified? I’m especially interested in hearing whether the more expensive programs provided enough additional value to make them worth the investment.

Thank you in advance for any advice or experiences you’re willing to share.

Training centre blocking from leaving...

Well it happened. My training center is refusing to let me go.
China.

I know there are lots of threads like this. But I even showed them evidence they did not pay my taxes, they said there is nothing I can do about it because me staying is the difference between them going bankrupt or not.

Went to the local police, they said it is not something they get involved in.
School is just flatly refusing to do my paper work - what do I do? Is my only option leave China and come back?
