How are people securely sharing confidential files and sensitive client documents online these days?

I’ve been thinking about this a lot recently because it feels like most people still rely on Google Drive links, Dropbox, or email attachments for things like contracts, financial documents, identity verification files, and other private client information.

What surprised me is that many of these links stay accessible for a long time, can easily be forwarded around, and usually aren’t built specifically for secure document exchange or encrypted file sharing.

I recently started looking into privacy focused file sharing tools that use temporary secure links, encrypted file transfer, expiring access, and browser based encryption for confidential document sharing, and now I’m wondering why this isn’t more common already.

With cybersecurity and online privacy becoming much bigger concerns lately, what’s actually considered the best way to securely share files online now?

Are businesses still mainly using Google Drive and WeTransfer, or are more people moving toward encrypted file sharing platforms and secure file transfer tools for sensitive documents?

Update: I was recently suggested Mboxly a secure file sharing tool for encrypted document transfer with password-protected temporary links. Has anyone here used something like this before?
