Lost WhatsApp chat history after iPhone transfer, encrypted backup password I never set up
Hey everyone,
hoping someone has been through this and found a solution.
I just switched to a new iPhone. I transferred everything using the direct iPhone-to-iPhone method, checked that everything looked good on the new phone, then factory reset the old one to give it to a family member.
After that I opened WhatsApp on my new iPhone and it’s asking me for an end-to-end encrypted backup password to restore my chats.
What I’ve already tried:
• Tried common passwords I use — incorrect, now locked out for 3 hours
• The old iPhone is already factory reset so I can’t change the password from there
My situation:
• Old iPhone: factory reset
Is there ANY way to recover access to this backup, or is my chat history permanently gone? Has anyone managed to get around this?
