Caregivers — how did you get your person to actually do their home exercises?

My uncle had a stroke a few months ago and came home with exercises and an AFO. They're not really doing the exercises and I don't know whether to push or back off. It's hard to watch.

For those who've been here — what actually helped? And did the AFO end up being worth it for your person, or did it sit in a corner?

Neuro PTs: how do you check if home exercises are actually being done?

  • I just ask and trust them
  • They keep a log/diary
  • An app or video
  • I don't really check
  • Something else (comment below)

Neuro PTs — be honest, how do you actually know your patients do their home exercises?

Location: Japan.

I hand patients a home exercise program and then... I have no real idea if they do it, or do it right. I just ask at the next visit and take their word for it. So I keep the program tiny so at least the basics get done.

Is that everyone, or am I missing a trick? How do you handle it?

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE FLSUN

I have 2 of v400s and I bought a calibration probe on October 28th through chatting on WeChat customer service and it it now June and I still don't have the calibration probe. I checked in monthly for updates and last few months, the customer service representative stopped responding. I emailed them in April and still no response. Then I bought another one from AliExpress for $50.

For those of you who wear an AFO — what was the process of getting it like? And do you actually wear it?

My [family member] had a stroke recently and the doctor mentioned they might need an AFO (ankle-foot orthosis) for foot drop. I don't know much about this world and I want to understand what to expect.

For those of you who've been through this:

  • How long did it take from when the doctor said you needed one to when you actually got it?
  • How many appointments did it take? Did you have to travel far?
  • Does it actually fit well? Is it comfortable enough to wear all day?
  • If you could change one thing about the process, what would it be?

I just want my [family member] to get the right support without a nightmare process. Any advice appreciated.

PTs who work with stroke or neuro patients — what's your experience with getting AFOs prescribed and delivered?

I work in neuro rehab and I've been thinking about how much time gets lost between when I identify a patient who needs an AFO and when they actually get one. For some of my patients, the wait has been weeks or longer, and by then the rehab window feels like it's closing.

I'm curious about other PTs' experiences:

  • How long does it typically take from when you identify the need for an orthosis to when the patient actually gets it?
  • What's your relationship like with the orthotist? Do you feel like your clinical input gets carried through to the final device?
  • Have you ever had patients who just stopped coming back because the device took too long or didn't fit right?

I'm trying to understand if this is a "me" problem or if the workflow is broken more broadly. Would love to hear how it works at your facility.
