Impact of AI on programming careers: Should a +2 student still choose BE CSE?
Hi everyone,
I am a +2 student from India and I am currently thinking about choosing BE Computer Science Engineering.
But I am confused because of the rapid growth of AI tools and code generation.
Today, AI can already generate code, explain code, debug errors, create small applications, write scripts, and even help with system design. I understand that programming will not disappear immediately, but I am wondering how much the role of a programmer will change by the time I graduate.
My questions are:
Is BE CSE still a good degree choice in 2026 and beyond?
Will entry-level programming jobs reduce because of AI-assisted coding?
What type of students will still do well in Computer Science despite AI?
Should I focus only on coding, or should I also build deeper skills like systems, networking, security, AI/ML, data structures, operating systems, and problem solving?
For someone starting now, what areas inside Computer Science are likely to remain valuable long term?
Would you still recommend BE CSE to a student who genuinely likes computers, logic, and technology?
I am not looking for hype or fear-based answers. I want practical advice from people already studying or working in software, AI, cybersecurity, data science, or related fields.
Thanks.
