Pregnancy Weight Gain

Hi everyone! I (32F) am currently 31w6d pregnant with my first child. I'm posting here because I just feel like I need to talk to someone and hopefully see if anyone has a similar experience as me.

Prior to getting pregnant, I was fluctuating somewhere from 132-136 lbs. I had on and off days when it came to exercising consistently but I started running in June 2024 at least 2-3x a week. I slowly started from a mile to eventually anywhere between 2-4 miles. I stopped running in November 2025 due to several life events, including my pregnancy.

Even though I was running, I don't think I ever had any "real" muscle. Strength training wasn't really my thing. However, towards the end of February 2026 to the first week of March 2026, I started strength training 3x a week with a personal trainer with each session lasting for an hour. Now, I can feel that I've actually built up some solid muscle in my legs and arms. It's not like crazy strong but it's the strongest I've ever been.

I had my OB appointment today and the doctor was worried about my weight gain. I'm currently at 172 lbs at 31w6d. All my other vitals are fine though with my BP being 111/78. I also took my gestational diabetes test in March which came back normal. I literally had no crazy pregnancy symptoms other than slight nausea during my 1st trimester. Outside of that, the pregnancy has been going really well.

My diet hasn't really changed. The only change I've had was incorporating breakfast. Prior to being pregnant, I never really ate breakfast. It just wasn't really my thing. Now, my doctor wants me to do a finger prick test 4x a day until the end of my 3rd trimester. She also mentioned that I should be mindful of what I'm eating because if I gain more weight, it could cause complications and lead to a c-section. This honestly has frightened me but I'm just so confused because I literally feel fine all the time. I'm happy and energetic. I barely feel nauseous or anything like that. The only symptoms I've had is maybe back pain but that's it.

I'm not sure if this is helpful/critical information but the only reason why I started eating breakfast too is because I nearly passed out while doing strength training. I mentioned this to my doctor and it was apparently because I likely didn't eat enough. This was back in March, I think.

After my doctor's appointment today, my mind is constantly just worried, anxious, and confused. I don't even know what I'm supposed to do because I literally feel pretty healthy. I also don't think I'm eating that unhealthily. Maybe I can cut some carbs but I don't think I'm having that much carbs?

Sure, I can watch what I eat but the food I eat is literally my culture's and my husband's culture's food which is Korean and Chinese. If I'm making Korean food at home for dinner, it's usually just a scoop of rice with a bowl of stew. That's really about it. For lunches, I have either a box from CookUnity or have something small like an Avocado Toast or something, or just skip lunch if I'm not hungry. For breakfast, I typically have one small cup (8oz) of instant coffee with milk and no sugar and either 2 slices of sourdough bread with butter and jelly; or a bagel with creamcheese and nothing else. If I need a midday snack or something, I usually go for cucumbers or tomatoes in the fridge or Fage 5% greek yogurt with granola. The one thing I could be much better about is drinking more water though. I've gotten a little better about it but it's just so hard sometimes.

I guess I'm just venting at this point. It's so frustrating honestly and I wish I didn't have to feel this way during my final trimester.
