Is using 中意 in Mandarin to convey "like" a new thing?

So I'm a Cantonese ABC, and have only ever heard 鍾意 used in Cantonese and it would be 喜歡 in Mandarin.

I've recently gotten into watching short dramas and noticed they're using 中意 quite a bit; is it somehow a different meaning? English subtitles still say "like" but it seems interchangeable with 喜歡

I've asked my Mandarin speaking friends and they don't ever hear it used like that, (but maybe it's because we're all a bit older, so out of touch with the lingo shift and I'm just immature, watching short dramas?)

I do get short drama dialogue, isn't necessarily normal every day dialogue; is that the case here?
