Tooth loss 2+ years after blow to mouth
A now 73-year-old friend of mine recently had tooth issues develop - a couple of his teeth became loose, sore, and fell out. He believes this stems from an incident that happened ~2.5 years ago in which my golden retriever became overly excited and "headbutted" my friend in the front of the mouth, in the area that he would later loose those two teeth. At the time it happened, he said it hurt quite a lot, but I think the pain diminished fairly quickly. That said, a few weeks after the incident he developed some pain in the front teeth which his dentist was able to help him with. (I don't know the diagnosis given at the time.) My friend then went 2+ years without an issue until the loss of his teeth.
Is a delayed onset of dental issues due to being struck in the teeth something that really happens? If so, how likely is it? What are the chances that the incident with the dog really caused it? Aside from this issue, I don't think my friend has periodontitis or other serious tooth issues.
