Why Do Some Rich People Hide Their Wealth Instead of Showing It Off?

Why Do Some Rich People Hide Their Wealth Instead of Showing It Off?

I've been thinking about something interesting: why do some wealthy people keep their lifestyle private, while others feel the need to show everyone what they own?

Is it about security, social status, psychology, or simply how people are raised to think about money?

I explored this idea in my latest stick-animation video on Cognitive Canvas, looking at quiet wealth, the psychology of showing off, and why visible wealth doesn't always mean lasting wealth.

I'm a small creator trying to improve my storytelling and animation, so I'd genuinely appreciate your thoughts.

Question: If you became wealthy tomorrow, would you keep it private or let people know? Why?

the dark reason we literally can't stop gossiping (dunbar's research)

hey everyone, i was reading up on robin dunbar's 150-person limit and how early humans basically replaced physical grooming with gossip to keep alliances together. it blew my mind that gossip was essentially a survival alarm to avoid getting exiled from the tribe. i actually spent the last few weeks animating a short visual deep dive into the psychology of this.

would love to know if you guys think i got the science right or if you have any other book recommendations on primate social structures!
