Freediving near SF 🐟

Any active freedivers train around the Bay? I used to coach back in my hometown, and am looking to join a school/community here for pool or open water training. Thanks a lot 😄

How to survive SF summers at night? 🥶

Edit: I just moved to the US a few months ago from a hot, tropical country (average temperature is 85f+) so this is my first time experiencing weather colder than 70f.

I've been absolutely freezing for the last three nights, despite running a space heater and layering up. Any suggestions for how to make an apartment warmer without running a huge electricity bill? I don't yet have curtains so I suspect the bay windows may be letting in a lot of draft. Thanks!

good audiologist in sf for ravers?

trying to take the first brave step to getting my hearing checked because i go to a lot of raves and concerts, and am basically listening to music 24/7 on my sony headphones, but im a bit scared that going to an audiologist who doesn’t have a music background may create some sort of weird judgment or bias towards me (maybe i’m just scared not having much experience going through the healthcare system)

Anyone know a non judgmental audiologist who could help me test my hearing now and give good advice about how to protect it until old age? i love listening to music and still wanna be able to do this when im 60. i’d love to understand the sound mechanics a bit better and treat my hearing health as a health marker if that’ll help keep me healthy

Finding Passionate Electronic Music Teacher

Moved to the US from Asia in large part to be closer to the electronic music scene here. Been a fantastic two months so far, listening to some of the best music I've ever heard in Oakland (Theo Parrish, Earthport), SF (Nicola Cruz, Underworld) and Detroit (Movement). Y'alls are super spoilt with the great music here fr

Hoping to change my relationship with music from pure consumption to creation. I'm not musically trained but looking for a passionate teacher who can help me delve deeper into the world of:

  • Techno (industrial, minimal, hardgroove, tribal)
  • Music production, mixing
  • Happy to learn any new instruments (e.g. piano) or restart guitar (beginner level)

Any recommendations for any incredibly passionate music teachers/schools/collectives around the area that can support this kind of interest? Many thanks! 😄

When did you last get a hug?

I just moved to the US two months ago, and have since gone through one of the most life changing, perspective shifting, and creatively driven changes of my life. SF is awesome!

Today at the free Downtown First Thursdays concert, I bumped into an incredibly cute girl at a record shop. We hit it off immediately and complimented each other’s make-up.

I really, really wish I had asked for her number but I was too awkward in the moment. Ugh 😩 But she did give me a hug as I was leaving, and I almost tore up crying, realising it was the first real hug I had received in my two months here.

When did you last get a real hug? The kind that really made you feel seen?

movement changed my life. where to next? 🫦

i just moved to the US (california) less than 2 months ago from asia, and MOVEMENT KNOCKED MY SOCKS OFF. anthology & WoS? chef’s kiss 😘

i loved meeting likeminded dance and music friends from detroit, chicago, LA, philly, and dancing to sensual, hypnotic, feral, nasty techno alongside the kindest (and sluttiest) human beings 🫦🫶🏽🌈🖤

i’m planning my 2026 festival + rave calendar and willing to travel to any city / forest / mountain to catch this vibe. ideally somewhere that helps me also understand america’s beautiful history & culture better 🫶🏽 (the midwest, east coast, southern culture, etc)

so, where to next?

Honest Discussion: How does Berghain compare to what we saw in Detroit?

BEFORE ANYONE ATTACKS THIS POST: I’m looking for an objective comparison between the two experiences, and NOT TRYING TO DISS OR PUT DOWN ONE SCENE OR CITY OVER THE OTHER. I absolutely LOVE the Berlin sound, and I was BLOWN AWAY by Detroit so this post is really trying to respect and appreciate both scenes.

Okay so… I love techno, and have been rejected from Berghain both times I tried to go (tbh rly hurt my ego… ouchhhh 😂), including one Sunday morning where my friend and I woke up at 6 AM to go party. I’ve heard a lot of Berghain sets on Soundcloud and honestly LOVE the meditative, hypnotic, industrial sound. For those who have been to Berghain before… how does it compare to what we saw in Detroit?

I specifically LOVED the Anthology and Wall of Sound parties. I was SO tranced out at those two parties, danced for 7-8 hours, re-enacting mythologies of being a slutty rattle snake 🐍

Also tbh, it really sucked to get rejected by Berghain as a techno lover 😔 Made me think about whether I was “hard enough” for techno, and made me feel insecure about parts of my persona, fashion, and identity. I loved how Detroit doesn’t have the same ‘door vibe check’ culture, which can be a really killer for someone visiting Berlin on holiday, but I understand why it may be necessary nonetheless.

Finding Parties similar to Anthology and Wall of Sound 🚀

These parties BLEW ME AWAY. The quality of the DJs, the light & sound production, the impeccable vibe of the crowd, the dark and sensual energy.

How do you find similar quality parties like this in the US? Are there any collectives, DJs or festivals you'd recommend me to check out? I would be open to travelling to other cities (LA, NYC, Chicago, Detroit, etc.) if that's what it takes to find this vibe!
