PC completely dead no power at all after opening case (worked less than a min before)

Hi everyone

My PC was working perfectly fine before this. I removed the side panel and opened the case to check my SATA SSD and move a few cables around, and now the PC is completely dead.

There is absolutely no power at all.

No lights, no fans, no spinning, no beep, nothing.

It is like the PC is not receiving power anymore.

Before this, the system was already a bit unstable and slow at times, but it still turned on and worked. I also realized my SSD was showing around 1000ms average latency, which is extremely high and suggests it was already having serious performance issues.

After opening the case, the system stopped working completely.

Here is what I already tried: I tested different wall sockets and a different power cable. I removed the GPU completely. I also waited around 40 minutes with everything unplugged. Still nothing at all.

I also found two loose screws inside the case earlier, which I removed. I think the GPU might have been slightly pressing or bending the 24 pin cable before I fixed it. (gpu is freshly installed, worked got the drivers for it and doesn’t work now)

Right now I am not sure what is causing this. I am thinking it could be a PSU protection shutdown from a short circuit, a loose or bent 24 pin cable, a CPU power cable issue, or possibly a PSU failure. I do not think it is the GPU or SSD causing the no power issue since I already removed them and nothing changed.

I also want to add that I did not actually run the system in a minimal setup when testing. Everything was still connected when the issue happened. The problem started immediately after I removed the side panel while the system was in its normal configuration, so it may have been something getting disturbed inside the case rather than a controlled minimal test.

My question is what is the fastest way to confirm if the PSU is dead or just in protection mode, and is it possible that a slightly loose 24 pin cable or a small short from a screw can cause a completely dead system like this?

I am planning to do a paperclip test but I want to make sure I am not missing something obvious before I do it.

Any help would be appreciated because I am stuck.
