When the Large Hadron Collider was turned on in 2007 I remember a roommate being disturbed by it because there was pushback on the unknown dangers of the accelerator. I can't recall the details but I remember him saying that scientists were theorizing it had some chance to destroy existence or have some catastrophic unknown effect. He said something specific it's just been a long time..

I recall some concern about this potentially dangerous thing we had no say over which was about to be turned on, but then months and years went by with no incident. I just assumed "oh, its not a big deal actually."

But if quantum immortality is a thing, perhaps thats why the timeline has gotten weird? Maybe CERN has wiped out human existence in many timelines, or had some catastrophic effect. Perhaps those of us here were in one such timeline and had to scramble off, were thrown into a weird ass timeline. Or maybe it works in some other way.

Everything started getting weirder around that time though. Can't remember people having hope like they used to past 2013 or so.

just lazily writing a post to say that given the description of your community, it is surprising that there is pushback to Marx. Here is why:

-This is a guy who was an anti-utopian materialist. Materialism meaning, he simply described what was happening in the world in a detached and objective way, without the need to add any layers of morality to what was happening.

-Marx was simply a synthesis of existing tendencies took to their logical end (Smith & Ricardo's economics, german idealism, french revolutionary politics). And that progress remains pretty unsurpassed if you actually engage with it. Of course there are new contributions but nobody has managed to dislodge his critique. Also, he never described a new way of organizing society.

-any vision of the future will have to proceed from the perspective of the critique or the complete tearing down of the illusions which exist today. If you unconsciously accept the illusory way that society appears but isn't really, your predictions won't be very good.

So why no love for marx?

This may start a fight so please excuse me.

For 30 years of my life I didn't think god existed. Then recently I experienced god in a way that was undeniable of its existence. The experience was really funny and filled with love and joy. I realized that the pain I felt could be assuaged with guidance by god as well as direct feelings of love and reassurance when I was walking my path. Life has been much better. I didn't believe in god and didn't need to to have it happen.

Now, I feel kind of silly for living 30 years of my life not doing this when it was here all along. You know what didnt help? All of you dogmatic Christian proselytizers! Kindly, you guys think you are helping guide people to god, but for people like me, you couldn't be doing a better job at driving us away. The things Christians devotees had said to me absolutely left me wanting to get as far away from god as I could.

My question is what is it that you THINK you're doing! Because your "help" isn't helping people like me. I invite you all to take a closer look at the results of your actions. Please take an honest look and see if what you are doing is bringing people closer to god or driving them away. You guys frequently come off as self-righteous and disrespectful of people's sovereignty. I'm singling out Christians just because of my experience, can't speak to others.

I used to be pissed off at you guys because you're annoying asf, now with the experience of how life-changing god has been (and to think I went through 30 painful years without that!) I'm greatly saddened by seeing you repeat this process with other people like me.

Some unsolicited advice for engaging non-believers:

- Think before quoting the bible.

If they don't accept it as a form of truth then why are you forcing it at them? Step outside your perspective into their shoes. Have some empathy. If you understand the bible so well, use your own words and convey them in a way that the person will understand... How about giving them something that's actually relevant to their life rather than some abstract theological debate. Something they can apply. "Tomorrow will take care of itself." That's a great one. Be useful for a change, rather than a source of friction. If you use the bible as a dagger they will think of it as such. THINK. Investigate your intentions.

- Stop using fear as a tactic.

Is god infinite love? If you have infinite love at your disposal, then show some for a change. Stop trying to take shortcuts. Take hell out of your vocabulary. Whenever anyone used fear, I immediately recognized that as manipulation.

- Allow people to be sovereign.

God respects free will. Stop trying to "save" people. To me this came off as extremely disrespectful and condescending. And, its fundamentally impossible! They are the only one who can "save" themselves. Show the door gently but don't force them to walk through. Allow them to come to you, allow them to come to their own conclusions. STOP FORCING IT.

- In my experience, experience is the best answer.

In my approach, I try to encourage others to experience. From experience comes knowing (gnosis). Speak from your own experience and listen to theirs. If you can't understand theirs, have the humility to admit that to yourself and back off if what you are doing is unwanted.

- Our way is another way, not a better way.

Have some humility. You guys come off as so high and mighty! Stop acting superior to others. If you don't believe the above slogan, then at least pretend like you do if you want better results... You do not know god's path for ANYONE but you. You cannot hear what it is that god says to others. Give people a mustard seed. Stop trying to force the whole plant down their throat.

Jesus contradicted the pharisees through example, by showing heart and mercy above the pharisees' adherence to rule and tradition. Ask yourself: in the eyes of others, which do I seem more like? Start with yourself.
