DIY Drone Kits

Hello everyone, I’m very fascinated to see the amazing drone builds people share here. I wanted to ask something from both an engineering and marketing perspective:

When building drones, how much importance do you give to appearance compared to performance?

We recently completed our DIY Drone Kit for students and hobbyists. The goal was to create a platform where users can truly learn drone design, assembly, configuration, and programming from scratch. Performance-wise, it works great and flies really well.

But honestly, once fully assembled, it doesn’t look as polished or attractive as some commercial drones, and that made me wonder how much appearance affects people’s perception and buying decisions.

For educational and DIY-focused products, do you think functionality and learning experience matter more, or does the visual design still play a major role in marketing and adoption?

Would love to hear your thoughts and suggestions.
