Vinted is trash: My experience as a pro seller, deceptive practices, abusive (shadow) bans, nonexistent support

Hello everyone, I’m here to vent my frustration about Vinted.

Context:
After signing up as a professional seller two months ago, Vinted has only caused me problems.

I now have around $6,000 worth of inventory to sell and I’m actively looking for a way to liquidate everything. I am also a programmer, so I decided to investigate the platform behavior in depth.

1. Shadow banning of professional sellers

To begin with, I encountered something extremely concerning: 0 views, 0 favorites on all my listings. (+150)

The photos were clean and professional. I invested hundreds of euros into equipment, lighting, and setup to ensure quality listings. So the results made no sense.

I started investigating whether my listings were actually being ranked or simply hidden in search results.

I ran multiple tests:

  • different keywords and search queries
  • logged-in vs logged-out states
  • different IPs ( Residential ISP proxy vs no proxy)
  • searches with low result counts (< 960 items) and high result counts (> 960 items)
  • both via the interface and via a reverse-engineered API I built

Findings

  • Searches while logged out always show more listings than searches while logged in. My listings were completely invisible when logged in.
  • Support advised me to buy boosts / “showcase” features to improve visibility. After purchasing them, nothing changed. My listings remained impossible to find, even by exact title search.
  • When logged in, hidden listings appear to be exclusively professional accounts, which strongly suggests that Vinted is deliberately downranking or hiding pro sellers from search results, even when paid promotion is used.
  • It appears that Vinted maintains a low exposure ratio for professional accounts (~10%), meaning pro listings are systematically pushed down and rarely appear at the top of results.

After I started getting initial sales and reviews, my items did begin to appear in search results. However, my analysis suggests this is inconsistent, and even professional accounts with 2,000+ reviews can still be effectively hidden. This behavior does not seem tied to trust level or reputation.

Here is the ratio between professional account items on a researsh vs non pro (retails)

This show up the ratio get higher and higher on the first 100 items, and then remain constant

This partly makes sense, since Vinted is primarily designed for private individuals. They process hundreds of thousands of listings per day, and private sellers need to maintain visibility.

However, completely hiding professional sellers even when paying for visibility boosts, feels like a misleading and deceptive practice. The visibility ratio is also heavily skewed.

Professional accounts effectively have no meaningful exposure, even with paid promotion.

As a result, professional sellers and resellers end up adapting by creating multiple individual (non-professional) accounts just to generate sales. This does not solve the underlying issue; it simply displaces it elsewhere instead of addressing the platform’s structural bias.

Looking for my own item using logged on account and without logged on, 1 item is missing, and yea, it's mine !

Another researsh, but others pro sellers hidden

All the missing users are pro account:

2. No human customer support and slow response times

This is probably not new, but Vinted appears to provide no real human customer support, which in certain cases may conflict with Article 22 of the GDPR when automated decision-making is involved.

The support process always follows the same pattern:

  • “Hello X,”
  • copy-pasted response
  • fake name || Vinted

This creates a misleading impression of human interaction, while in practice the system appears to be largely automated (just bulk submit issues it's blatant bot). If this is the case, it should be clearly disclosed that automated systems are being used.

Response times are also extremely long, despite the fact that the process seems (Is) fully automated. Replies are repetitive and generic, regardless of the issue described. It is effectively impossible to reach a human operator.

For example, after an account ban, Vinted imposes a 120-hour waiting period, which is often not respected. Users are then met with another copy-paste response instructing them to wait even longer, without any meaningful update or escalation path.

3. Abusive bans for counterfeit claims

Personally, after trying different ways to generate traffic on my profile—whether by drastically lowering prices, changing backgrounds, or testing various listing strategies—I eventually identified a pattern that significantly increased engagement (going from 1 view to 5… impressive).

It is at this point that I had two listings removed for “counterfeit”, despite both items being fully authentic. The two products were from different brands and had already been listed multiple times on the platform without any issue.

However, after simply adjusting pricing and relisting, I was instantly banned without any prior warning.

I have now spent over a week contacting support via email and chat, with no meaningful resolution.

The first response regarding the removed listing was:

>Hello xxx,
>
>I will get back to you as soon as I have an update on this. Please note as we are looking into every detail, this might take a little while longer, but rest assured that we will come back with a response as soon as possible. There is no need to open additional tickets meanwhile.
>
>Thank you for your patience 🌻
>
>Kate || Vinted

Then later:

>Hello there,
>
>I'm sorry to hear that your item was removed from the catalogue. It seems like there was a mistake on our side.
>
>No worries! I have restored your item again - this time I promise we'll keep it safe in our catalogue.
>
>Best wishes,
>
>Margarita || Vinted

Despite this, there has been no account reinstatement, and no change to the ban status. The open ticket, which includes full proof of authenticity, receives only generic responses such as:

>“No worries, I've just forwarded your issue for further investigation. As soon as I have any updates, I'll come back to you with the information.”

It is also worth noting that when an account is banned, users may lose access to requesting a data snapshot of their stored information, and in some cases may even be unable to withdraw funds held on the platform.

4. My experience with multi-account usage

At this point, I started creating additional private Vinted accounts in order to continue selling inventory, as I have significant stock to liquidate and need to generate income.

I created two private accounts using:

  • dedicated ISP proxies
  • a new phone number
  • separate IBANs / private infos
  • and a browser configured to spoof fingerprints to ensure full isolation between accounts

The first account was able to list a few items successfully. I later stopped using it and left it inactive (at that time I was not yet banned on my professional account and intended to remain compliant with the platform’s terms).

After my ban, I reused existing product photos (some previously listed, others not), applied cropping, and posted 18 listings. Within 24 hours, engagement was extremely high in terms of views and favorites (again suggesting that private accounts are significantly boosted in visibility).

This further reinforced the idea that the issue is not related to the quality of photos or listings.

However, the 19th listing resulted in another counterfeit-related ban, despite the item being:

  • already listed dozens of times by other users on the platform
  • fully authentic
  • priced at €5

This morning, I created yet another account, fully isolated again. This time I also modified image metadata to match IP address location and device consistency. After posting only a second item (already previously listed twice without issue), the account was again banned for counterfeit suspicion.

At this point, it is unclear whether detection is:

  • based on multi-account linking (fingerprinting / behavior correlation), or
  • automated counterfeit detection applied inconsistently

However, in practice, it appears extremely difficult to operate normally, even with fully compliant listings and proper documentation (front photos, back photos, details, tags, etc.).

My Conclusion

In its current state, it feels extremely difficult to reliably sell on Vinted. From my experience, the platform appears inconsistent and opaque in how it enforces rules and visibility.

Legitimate sellers seem to face disproportionate enforcement actions, while counterfeit listings remain widely present on the platform. As a result, I am considering moving to alternatives such as Whatnot, eBay, Depop, and others, as continuing on Vinted does not appear viable. (pls suggest me)

I will also explore legal remedies, including a formal complaint and potential cease-and-desist action, given the lack of transparency and resolution.

I have seen similar experiences shared by others, but I have rarely seen detailed technical analysis of platform behavior, which is why I wanted to document this full report.

Extra:

Also on top, vinted doesn't provide any API, Statistic (except if u boost one item), SKU system and anything a 'pro' vinted users would need.

There are a large number of “private sellers” who are in reality professional sellers operating with high-value inventories (often worth tens or even hundreds of thousands).

These accounts are rarely, if ever, banned for commercial activity. Instead, they appear to benefit from increased visibility and effectively compete with, or displace, both legitimate private users and registered professional sellers.
