three Jason portraits in three different styles by me (@fellaorg on twt)
I feel like hardly any of the modern Jason characterisations could/would have done UTRH
Im not great at prose/rhetoric so to put it very inelegantly: Jason is not even close to as mentally ill as he used to be. He has just become softer and more palatable over the years. He doesn't do grandiose monologues he doesnt poke at people's traumas. And it's not like I don't want him to develop as a person. I do like that Jason is able to exist outside of being in a crisis state of mind. I'm just worried we are going to lose it entirely. Like Jason wont spiral or be an asshole ever again.
Seperately I really hope they come up with a consistent coherent ideaology for Jason Todd. It's kinda all over the place- or atleast if its gonna be all over the place I'd like it to be more clear how his lived experience gives him blind spots.
Clearly with Jason there is a theme of class and frequently he's doing a bit of a class conciousness thing. I just want to understand how he fits "people do bad things because of their circumstances" with "some people should be killed for their crimes" especially with his own father, Willis, being a criminal to provide for him and Catherine.
I think it would be cool if we could see him grapple with both his understanding of why people commit violent crime and his burning hatred for those perpatrators.
I'd like it alot if Jason had a solo that gets really psychological and political where he meets many complicated original characters that reflect something about him or his world view. Similar to the first run of Batgirl 2000 or Hellblazer.
Outside of my personal preferences for the character i think its really important that they flesh out his pre batman childhood at some point. They dont have to go crazy deep into just give us an idea of 1: how poor were the Todds 2: what kind of traumas shaped Jason in what way specifically.
Sometimes Impulse's connection to the speedforce is represented as similar to a disability. I'm wondering if something similar occurs with any other speedsters.
This isn't about author intention, I think they were intending that Bart is the way he is because of his speedforce attachment since birth as well as having less life experience than his age.
