I am trying to get into this novel but I am struggling. Is it just bad translation or are fights really supposed to go

This is more humorous to me than keeping me at the edge of my seat. Maybe this is just not for me, but I am wondering if this remains like this or gets much better? Because I see a lot of hype but right now I am not seeing it.
