Phone Usage and Dating

I have been seeing a woman for the last 6 months. We are exclusive and recently took our first trip together; four days at a beach, three nights in a hotel. I overall had a lot of fun but one thing really bothered me during. She got mad if I used my phone at all. Im not one to sit on my phone when on a date, I dont text or call when we are together but one day we were coming back from the beach and she was driving back to the hotel and I got on my phone to check the news and reddit and she got instantly pissed. Mind you we had been together all morning actively engaged with each other, went snorkeling. I dunno if its from me having a controlling gf in the past and I got triggered but the moment really gave me the ick. What do you think? Was I in the wrong or just overracting because I had a controlling to the point of abusive partner before

Not the first time its happened either

What's a hobby you picked up later in life that's brought you joy?

I need more hobbies. I work in my yard when the heat allows. I used to be outside more but the heat kills me anymore.

I used to work on mechanical stuff like lawnmowers and stuff for side work but I've mostly stopped that because I help my brother with my niece a few times a week and I dont want her toddling around tools and shit when she stays over.

I looked at some art classes in my city and was thinking about doing stain glass but Im not sure its just not me. Im thinking of buying an old car to repair but I also dont want to just get a money sink hobby. What does everyone else do? Im 55 not getting any younger.
