I‘m looking for advice on where to find help with my teeth after visiting several dental offices over the past five years where the previous recommendations didn’t stop the issue.
As you can see in the pictures I have several teeth that have very little enamel left and now a few have broken off (this picture is about six months old).
The issue first surfaced as thin white lines around the gumline on a few of my teeth. I brought it to the attention of my dentist at the time and they let me know it was demineralization and provided me a special toothpaste to leave of the teeth.
The white lines grew over time and before it advanced to the points where the pitting occurred, I went to another dentist office who let me know the issue could be resolved with scaling.
The scaling ended up making things much worse because the lines grew much faster and has led to what I‘m dealing with now
I’ve been told crowns are an option but I‘m concerned about finding out the real issue because now that many of my front teeth are very badly damaged, white lines are now appearing on the rest of my teeth.
My last visit to the dentist (where crowns were discussed) the dentist told me I don’t have any cavities but couldn’t say what has actually caused the damage
I have dental and medical insurance luckily but to me I think this should be covered under medical (dental insurance only covers so much of the total cost of course).
I do have a condition called Achalasia, which is a rare, chronic disorder where the esophagus cannot properly move food into the stomach, and the lower esophageal sphincter fails to relax. I‘ve had many surgeries to allow me to eat but the trade off is acid reflux, so that may have a large impact on everything.
Note: I have no pain and very little sensitivity. Only time I really get discomfort is if I get something like ice cream that you have to bite into and it sits on the dentin.
