A Mother's Mission
A few years ago, my son developed severe seborrheic dermatitis. If you've been through it, you know the absolute helplessness of watching someone you love constantly itch, flake, and deal with those painful, raw flare-ups.
Our doctor immediately handed us a prescription for steroid creams and heavy medical shampoos. I have sensitive skin myself, and my gut told me that nuking his fragile skin barrier every day wasn't a long-term cure—it was just suppressing the symptoms while making his skin thinner and more dependent.
Out of pure desperation, I spent my nights reading clinical studies about the skin microbiome and the Malassezia yeast. I kept seeing apple cider vinegar mentioned in forums like this one, but straight ACV was way too harsh for his skin. So, I literally stood in my kitchen mixing diluted ACV, live probiotics, aloe, chamomile, and green tea, just trying to make something gentle enough for a kid but effective enough to balance his skin.
It took months of tweaking ratios, but it actually worked. The redness faded, the thick scales stopped forming, and his skin finally had the chance to heal itself naturally.
The relief of finally seeing his skin clear, without relying on steroids, was indescribable. I started sharing the leftovers with friends and neighbors who were dealing with their own stubborn eczema and skin conditions, and seeing it work for them too completely shifted my path. What started as a desperate mom mixing ingredients in her kitchen eventually turned into my full-time job.
I know how isolating and exhausting it is to constantly fight your own skin, especially when you feel trapped in a cycle of harsh prescription creams. I just wanted to post this to remind anyone struggling right now to trust your gut when it comes to barrier repair. Your skin wants to heal; sometimes it just needs the right, gentle environment to reset. Hang in there.
