New salary schedule won’t be available until after the deadline to sign next year’s contracts

Is this common?

My district has been a dumpster fire lately. There were several news stories revealing corruption at the district level, including misuse of district funds. Our superintendent retired mid-year, two cabinet members were placed on leave (and ultimately fired) and a board member was removed.

Several districts around us have announced furlough days next year due to funding issues. We have a union, but they’ve said that negotiations have been chaotic, unclear, and unproductive (which makes sense….half the cabinet is gone, and I imagine the budget is complicated given theres still money unaccounted for).

Is it typical for teachers to sign contracts before they know their salary? It feels shady given the circumstances, but I’ve heard it’s common in some places.

My partner and I have been together for three years and transitioned through varying levels of openness in our relationship (monogamy, polyamory, and polyish). I wanted to get some thoughts on how my partner describes what poly feels like for him.

He says monogamy makes him feel trapped, and it often leads to unrealistic expectations of his partner. His mindset is that this one person is all he has, so that person better be perfect. In the monogamous phases of our relationship he tended to overreact to small issues. When he’s poly, he has more patience. He says dating other people gives him perspective on what he appreciates about his primary partner.

There’s also been lots of conversation about the excitement of pursuing and dating new people, and how that’s contributes to his self esteem.

Is this how polyamory is for some people? I lean monogamous, although I’ve been in many poly relationships. Needing to be poly in order to have patience and reasonable expectations of your partner raises some flags for me. But obviously I’m biased. Would love feedback from other poly folks.
