Anyone else had a horrendous sleep schedule this summer?

Every night these past 4 months I've been sleeping at 4-5am and getting up at 1-2pm.

Now it's not like I was lazy or unproductive either. I had some hobbies and also had a part-time job (although it was in the evenings). But idk, my sleep schedule is whack. Hopefully I'm not the only one.

How to set boundaries with parents?

Basically i'm going into second yr and my parents have life360 on me at all times and my mom always texts me why I'm here or why I'm there, and if I fight back against it I get threatened with being disowned and my tuition being cut off. I only was allowed to go out with friends twice this past summer, and missed out on so many great memories. My friends went on a road trip to Owen Sound and I wasn't allowed to go. When I tried to fight to go I was threatened with ebing disowned and my tution cut off. If my friends went to a bar to watch fifa i wasn't allowed to go as my parents saw it as an invitation to get drunk, and when i tried to go i was told my tuition would be cut off. Anyways I'd really love to know how people here successfully set boundaries with their parents without being homeless. I'm working on being financially independent but there's only so much i can do balancing a pt job with studies, and paying rent. Thank you :)

Do landlords for student housing ask for a guarantor

Hi, I'm a second year undergrad student from Ontario (domestic) and this is my first time I'm searching for housing on my own, for the upcoming Fall semester. Yes I know it's late but I last minute decided I really need to leave my cousin's apartment.

Anyways, I'll be looking for a student house, but also some shared apartments. How common is it for landlords to ask for a guarantor? Reason I'm asking is my parents said they don't want me moving out and as punishment they'll refuse to be my guarantor. So am I screwed? Thanks

Online summer course has insane inflated averages

I'm taking an online class right now (no it's not SUSTAIN or MUSIC or anything like that, it's a bit of a niche elective). And I wrote two midterms so far and both of them were unproctored, posted as assignments, and the prof gives you like 2 hours to submit it. I try to be academically honest as possible so I don't use Chatgpt or AI or anything like that, and I genuinely study, and I get like low-mid 80s.

However, the class median is like a 95% I'm not even joking, I assume most people use ChatGPT. And the prof made an announcement saying how he's suspicious of the median (but ironically he won't do anything about it). I feel like I'm the only one tryna be honest hence why my grade is like at the bottom 25%. It sucks.

Need advice: my mom calls me 5 times a day and threatens me if I don't pick up

So this is my second post here in the past two days but I'm just tryna sort my shit out before second year starts. I'm honestly not looking forward to going back to uni because of this and I have major anxiety. Basically all throughout first year my mom would call me 5 times a day, if not more. Most days in fact it would be like every two hours.

Within the first month I obviously got annoyed and communicated to her that it'd be best if she'd just call me once a day and/or we can schedule a time to talk. And she got mad and said that if I ignore her calls or only call once a day she'll cut off my tuition (which she help pays; she pays my tuition, while I pay most of my rent through my part time job). If she did that, worst case scenario, well I'd probably have to drop out of uni temporarily (I'd only get a couple thousand in OSAP which I calculated, and I barely have any savings).

Anyways so for the entire first year I just had to abide or else my tuition would've been cut off. Unless I was in a lecture, I'd just pick up. Also this prevented me from socializing normally, from going to parties, from going out with people, etc. In addition whenever she calls she wants to know what I'm doing and who I'm hanging out with and say if I tell her I'm going to a party she'll threaten to cut off my tuition as she said I'm not allowed to do those things. Overall I just want to simply be myself. I urgently need help regarding this.

EDIT: and yes in case anyone's wondering I'm Asian (vietnamese). However NONE of my asian friends from high school or first year have to deal with this. They told me their parents call 2-3 times a week, and they go on parties, dates, night outs, socialize etc. and their parents know all that and still pay their tuition and rent. Why is it only me in this situation?

Why exactly is the "college experience" not a big thing in Canada compared to the US?

In the USA they really hype up the college experience of non-stop partying, drinking, living alone the first time, lots of fun, etc. etc. And I know Canada has some unis that do it as well (Guelph, Laurier, Western, Queen's) but overall we don't hype up the uni experience like the US does.

For one, almost everyone in the US moves away for uni and lives on their own. Whereas in Canada, roughly 40-50% of students live with their parents and go to commuter schools like TMU and York, UofT, etc. I also met an Australian exchange student last year and he told me the vast majority of people there live with their parents during uni and it's pretty much just "commute, attend your classes, then come back home" kinda thing. So why is the US so different than the rest of the Anglosphere in terms of college life?

Huge regrets not dorming in first year

I'm going into second year and over the past summer I've been constantly thinking about how much I missed out on, I scroll Instagram and see my classmates post pics from their times on res, how fun it looks, how much fun they had, etc. I remember being jealous seeing groups of guys come out of their residence and so happy together.

Anyways I'm from an Asian family (iykyk) and they wanted me to go to York or TMU so they can pretty much just control me as I'd be commuting and living at home. I fought a lot to go to McMaster and move out and they eventually let me, but on the condition that I wouldn't stay in a dorm so I "wouldn't be surrounded by bad people, wouldn't party, etc." So they made me live in a one-bed apartment in downtown Hamilton with my older cousin (who's a master's student). I wasn't able to pay for the dorm myself so I had to abide. My older cousin didn't even know this was happening until a week before the school year started and he didn't even consent, it's just that my dad and my uncle (his brother) somehow just decided. Anyways let's just say that this thing sort of damaged my relationship with my cousin, as he was pissed at all times for me living there.

First world issue I know. But still...it would've been nice to get a typical uni experience and live on res.
