Should I just go for 10 Bay residence as a grad student?

Incoming international grad student in CS here. I’m trying to decide if I should just sign for 10 Bay residence. I’ve seen the reviews already, but I honestly don’t know if I’d do well living in a house with 3-4 other people since I prefer a quieter environment.

Is 10 Bay worth it? Or are there any secure studio/single rooms or even 2-person places near campus that grad students usually go for?

Anyone not going to grad tomorrow?

I thought I was gonna go but that was before I found out I didn’t get into any med schools rip may 12th. I don’t feel like it’s worth it now to go.

How do I back out of grad this late? Genuine question. I don’t want them to call my name on stage. It’s not really deserved if I’m not gonna be a doctor and I don’t really wanna interact with my peers who got into med/dental.

Edit: I’m obviously sad and emotional, there was a lot of time and $$$ invested in this application cycle, and telling me I don’t deserve to be a doctor isn’t going to help. Maybe practice putting yourself in the shoes of someone who didn’t get it. People are allowed to be bitter and wallow for a bit

Update: I ended up going, it was nice and I took pics with friends. Thanks all for the kind words 💕

Is it worth going here over UTM?

Ik the community here, and arguably, the prestige is better than it is at UTM CS. However, would it be worth it, given that it would probably cost 15-20k more to attend Mac, since I would have to rent a place?

Desperate need of some advice, McMaster Engineering vs, MGMT Engineering at Waterloo

I’m currently trying to choose between Waterloo Management Engineering and McMaster Engineering 1 (Open/General). I’m having a really hard time deciding because they offer two completely different paths, and the current job market/tech landscape is making me overthink everything.

I’d love to get some insight from current students or recent grads on a few specific things:

  • CO-OPS: Obviously, Waterloo is known for WaterlooWorks, but how is Management Eng doing specifically in the current market? What do typical co-op salaries look like from first to upper years? On the flip side, how is Mac’s co-op program holding up for landing tech or traditional corporate roles?
  • Changing Your Mind / Choosing a Major: Mac Eng 1 is general, which sounds amazing because I can explore. I didn't get Free Choice, so I know streaming into competitive majors (like Software or Mechatronics) depends entirely on my first-year GPA. If I go to Waterloo for Management, I know I'm locked into that specific major from day one. If I absolutely hate Management Eng, how realistic is it to transfer into a traditional discipline (like SE, ECE, or Mech) at Waterloo, or would I basically have to restart?
  • The AI Impact on the Job Market: Since Management Eng involves a lot of data analytics, software, and supply chain optimization, how is the rise of AI affecting these jobs? Is a Management Eng degree more "AI-proof" because it blends technical skills with business/operations logic, or is it riskier than a traditional engineering degree?
  • Management vs. Traditional Eng Outlook: Looking ahead, what's the vibe on the job outlook for Mgmt Eng roles (Product Management, Data, Operations) compared to traditional disciplines at Mac (like Mech, Civil, or Chem)? Are traditional engineering streams safer from AI automation, or is the versatility of Management a better shield?

For anyone in either program, do you regret your choice? If you had to pick again right now given how crazy the tech/job market is, what would you do?

Thanks in advance!

Why IBIOMED good?

Do you know why IBIOMED is so competitive does it have much difference to engineering 1 in terms of coop salary and salary after graduation

Should I stay home or move for McMaster if I live about an hour away?

I live in Niagara and I’m planning on going to McMaster. The commute would be around an hour each way depending on traffic.

I’m trying to decide whether it’s worth moving to Hamilton or just staying home to save money. Rent seems expensive, especially since most student places are shared housing.

I know my first year would be free, but my sister will also be attending Mc master at the same time as me. She finishes her undergrad in 2027. So even if I have free residency, my sister would still have to find a place to stay.

I know based off my siblings that you can have classes a few hours apart. Since the university is an hour away (one way), I'd likely have to remain on campus the entire day sometimes, which I find tiring.

Would staying at home or moving would be better?

Help!! I’m a high student super lost…

Trying to decide between McMaster Engineering (no free choice) vs UofT Mineral Engineering (deferred from Electrical) and wanted some opinions. My end goal is a career in tech.

McMaster Engineering

Pros:
- Better campus/student life
- More fun/social atmosphere + better res experience
- Less stressful environment overall
- Still has good co-op opportunities at solid companies

Cons:
- No free choice, so I’d still need to compete for Electrical after first year
- Getting into Electrical at Mac seems harder every year
- Fewer tech/networking opportunities compared to UofT from what I’ve heard

UofT Mineral Engineering

Pros:
- Stronger name/reputation
- Easier access to internships/co-ops because of the UofT brand
- I live nearby, so networking/summer experiences would be easier
- Even Mineral Eng at UofT is still respected

Cons:
- Need around an 80% first-year average to transfer into Electrical, which I’ve heard is extremely difficult
- UofT engineering has a reputation for being very stressful
- Pressure of grades + transfer process sounds mentally exhausting
- I don’t mind Mineral Engineering, but I worry it’s less aligned with the future/tech industry and may have a lower ceiling for what I want
- Costs about $6–9k more per year, likely all in loans

Basically deciding between:
- McMaster = potentially happier/balanced experience but uncertainty getting Electrical
- UofT = stronger brand/opportunities but much higher stress, transfer pressure, and cost

Would appreciate any advice, especially from people in engineering/tech.

MacMaster Residency 2026

My daughter will be starting Computer Science at McMaster this coming fall. Since she is coming from out of province, she will be living in campus residence. I understand that the deadline to pay the $600 residence deposit is June 1 in order to guarantee a spot.

However, I’ve heard from some people that room assignments may be influenced by the order in which deposits are received, even if they are submitted before the June 1 deadline. For example, someone who pays on May 20 might receive preference in room selection over someone who pays on May 29.

Could you please confirm whether this is true?

Cardiovascular technology vs nursing( McMaster)

Hey everyone!! I recently got accepted into mcmaster BscN and Mohawk cardiovascular technology. I am a bit hesitant which to go with. If you have any info or insight about both programs please share it and help me.
I do like nursing however I worry about body fluids that I might come in contact with which is annoying.
Also I am a mature student/ a mom if that makes any difference.
I love both programs but job availability does make a difference. What do you guys think?
