Happy accident (i guess?)

So here's a little story: i was introducing a friend of mine to dnd and i told them to go on aidedd.org to get the rules in French. However, they mispelt it and we ended up on this aidd.org thing.

It made me curious so i had a look at it and it turned out to be massive. It is somehow connected to at least a dozen other websites including some in the same fashion (sinj.com for instance), and a lot of others that look a bit more legit but definitely aren't (such as the second pic, illiriana.com).

It meddles with occult symbols, movie references and conspiracy theories, i think it looks like an ARG or some parody of 973-eht-namuh-973.com. i've spent a lot of time getting lost on this website, trying to understand what it was for and where it came from. I still don't understand much, although it seems most of those sites are owned by two people in Canada and Eastern Europe.

It was overall a fascinating rabbithole, and even though i've kinda given up trying to get something out of it, i'm still curious. Is there actually some meaning behind it or is it just trolling? So if you have a lot of time on your hands, or if you're just curious, go and have a look! I'd like to see what people who know more than me think about it.

How would they even adapt the Silmarillion?

Reading the news and a recent post about a possible adaptation of the Silmarillion by Peter Jackson, i got that the consensus was that it was an awful idea, but it got me thinking.

What could an adaptation look like in terms of format? Even though i think it should be a whole (animated) saga, I'm afraid they'd feel like they have to make a trilogy, so how do you think they should divide the Silmarillion?

I was thinking:

  1. Ainulindalë, and QS 1-mid 9 (ending with the oath of Fëanor)

  2. QS mid 9-18/19 (idk how they intend to deal with Beren and Lúthien or Túrin for that matter)

  3. From Nirnaeth Arnoediad to the end of the war of wrath.

PS: i don't want it adapted either, i just thought it would be interesting to hear different takes on this

Hello, i'm about to DM CoS for the second time but this time for a table of new players. I thought about introducing them to both dnd and barovia by having them play a one/two-shots around serguei's wedding and Strahd's transformation.

I think that would help them understand what threat Strahd represents, and already have some notion of what to expect from him and from Barovia. Their reaction to the discovery that the bigger adventure is also set in Barovia might be very rewarding.

However, i'm afraid that it might ruin a whole part of their adventure, since Strahd's background wouldn't be a complete mystery to them (they wouldn't know everything but frankly if the only mystery left is the amber temple, what's the point of the tome?). Plus, even with warnings it might be a little rude to have an introduction that concludes on their characters having to run away or possibly dying.

So do you think i should do it, and if so, do you have any suggestions or ideas?
