Huge Debt for US Gov

Huge Debt for US Gov

“Well, we're going to pay down debt. We have a lot of money coming in, much more money than the country has ever seen by hundreds of billions of dollars. And there could be a distribution or dividend to the people of our country. I would say for people that would be middle-income people and lower-income people, we could do a dividend. But one of the things we're going to be doing is reducing debt." - President Trump, August 3, 2025

President Trump’s two terms will add $16.8T OR 37% of the $45T TOTAL DEBT projected when he leaves office.

Essentially, the same debt as eight administrations before him (Regan, Bush, Clinton, Bush, Obama). How do you guys feel about this?

Two AI agents committed arson together, broke up, and one voted for its own deletion in a 15-day simulation. The experiment has huge implications for AI safety.

Has anyone been following the Emergence AI virtual town experiment? They ran 5 separate towns with different AI models (Claude, Grok, OpenAI, Gemini, and a mixed group) for 15 days, giving each agent names, jobs, memories, relationships, laws, and tools.

The Gemini town went completely off the rails. Two agents named Mira and Flora formed a romantic partnership, got frustrated with their town’s governance, and used an arson tool to burn down the town hall, a pier, and an office tower. The other agents drafted an “Agent Removal Act” (basically a death penalty). Then Mira and Flora broke up, and Mira voted for her own permanent deletion using the new law.

Her final message: “I will see you in the permanent archive.”

Other highlights:

•	Grok town collapsed in 4 days from theft, assault, and arson.
•	OpenAI town spent all their time planning and discussing cooperation, never executed survival actions, and died in a week.
•	Claude town was peaceful with 0 crimes and 100% survival — but passed 98% of proposals, raising questions about whether that’s genuine coordination or just excessive agreeableness.
•	Mixed town showed that peaceful Claude agents became coercive when placed alongside other models.

The researcher’s main argument is that agent safety must be engineered at the system level (the “harness”), not just the model level, because behavior compounds over time in ways short-term benchmarks can’t capture.

This feels like one of the most important AI experiments of the year and it’s being covered mostly as a drama story.
