Frustrated and confused by IEP situation
Hi all, I am a first year preschool teacher in New York (Long Island) and feel in over my head about this- I requested off of work for an important appointment so weeks ago. Today, my school’s director casually mentioned “By the way you were supposed to have [Student]’s IEP meeting tomorrow. I already told them you can’t attend.” I was blindsided for two reasons-
I wasn’t told this student had an IEP meeting coming up at all
I have never been given access to or a copy of his IEP
Is this… typical? I have my master’s degree and I know I’m new to the educational field but my understanding was that if a student has an IEP I should have access to it so I can work on their goals and that I needed to be informed in advance of a meeting?
I feel like i’m going crazy but maybe for pre-k this is normal??? the other preschool teacher in my building said that our director likely doesn’t have copies of the IEPs and I’d have to ask the parents to see it if I wanted to.
