PC turns on for 1 second and turns off
My PC suddenly shut off randomly while browsing. Now, when trying to boot it back up, it powers on for a second before shutting off.
I’ve had this PC for a bit over 2 years and haven’t had a single issue until now. No recent hardware changes, and the tower hasn't been moved.
Ive narrowed it down to it only happening when the CPU 8-pin is plugged in. When the CPU cable is unplugged, the system turns on, all case fans/GPU fans spin, and the RGB lights up.
I've been told this points toward a shorted VRM on the motherboard, but I want to be absolutely sure before buying a replacement. I’ve tested the following:
- RAM: Moving the ram/testing 1 of either stick in all slots
- GPU: Removing the gpu
- PSU: Jumping the PSU with a paper clip (it works)
- CMOS: Resetting the CMOS battery with the pins and by physically reseating it
- Cables: Removing the extension cables and using the motherboard cables
- Outlet: I’ve tried 3 different outlets
- Debug LED: The CPU LED does light up before shutting down
I haven’t tested the system without my CPU yet, as I wanted to be sure of everything else before having to take out the CPU and everything else with it. Any thoughts would be appreciated
